Is there a way to replicate the SCV Mine/Attack Effect either through Sprites or AI Scripts?

Basically I just want to have a bunch of SCVs mining away at a couple buildings and/or doodads.

There is no way that I know of you can do it with triggers, I'm pretty sure there is a way to do it via glitching, and it is possible to do that effect by modding.

Starforge has a sprite that has that affect without the actual SCV, but I haven't made a map at all where it doesn't crash with those put in. You could try modding it, but I don't know how that will work out.

You could also try setting a building to always be at a certain HP and the comp SCV's order them through AI Scripts to repair it, but Idk what that AI Script would be.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

The glitch works as follows: You send the scv mining (afaik it needs to be to a resource it can't reach, not sure though) and recall it via arbiter (there's an ai for that) to water (or any unwalkable terrain). The scv will stop and mine the patch from afar.
After like 1-2 seconds (before the scv has finished mining the block )stop the scv and rinse and repeat.

Was this the method used in qpiratekings Deep Six? Because it looked like the SCV was mining a tree (doodad).

Also what is the AI Script for sending an SCV to mine? I know the Recall one.

Are you just looking to create that work effect? Deep Blue just had the SCV attacking a hero burrowed unit that it could see and the player couldn't.

If you place any peon as a disabled unit sprite, it just sits there mining the air.

I've seen it happen in the campaign, with probes and drones. I'm assuming off of that, that you can see the SCV mining animation.

eternal lurker

Disabling an SCV unit sprite causes the spark to appear in the top left corner of the map.
Not useful for your situation though, sorry.

well all three have the exact same blue spark effect so....

yeh the burrowed unit should work for what I want but I thought the unit would unburrow and attack when it gets attacked?

Give the burrowed unit to a nuetral owned player, not a computer/human player.

Ok well I have it all set up but I can't seem to get the SCV to attack I have a ghost of the same player as SCV it will shoot the burrowed unit fine but when I use an SCV it doesn't want to attacK? I know detection isn't a problem I have a Missle Turrent right near by.

In Deep Six, it is a floor gun trap that the scv is attacking. Issue an attack order if necessary.

In Deep Blue, the scv is repairing a goliath that is cloaked by an arbiter. Run the terran area town AI script and the scv will repair.

Recently, I made a map where the scv is attacking an enemy spider mine (the spider mine owner is allied).

There are many ways to do this, you should find whatever works for you.

is Area Town AI Script Location specific
Yes. Hence 'area'.

Actually don't lock yet please I just uncovered another glitch.

I was using the SCV repair area town thing and it is all well and good but after about a minute the SCV stops repairing it.

Right now it goes like this.

CON
Always
ACT
Run the SCript
Set Building Hp to X%
Set Minerals and Gas to X
Preserve

So not sure why the SCV just decides to stop after a period of time?

Area Town could be giving up, or it may have only checked the building HP when the repair started?

Attacking a burrowed unit seems more reliable, since you can remind the SCV to attack every trigger cycle using ORDER.

how can it be "giving up" i have it on preserve

i just tried something different with death counts

CON
DC = 100
ACT
Run Script

CON
DC = 400
ACT
Order
Reset DC

and what happens is after I order it doesn't start repairing again... really confused atm.

That may be the problem. It's generally a bad idea to run such a script more than once.
