Socialism can probably bring this change around quicker and less painfully.

Worldwide socialism will most likely not come into being. Those who are in power rarely want to relinquish it.

Every country is heavily influenced by its past. One could say that national mentalities are a form of propaganda. One can find the flaws of Communism and socialism in an American school textbook, but do they ignore some negative aspects of capitalism?

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Regardless, I think we can agree that capitalist America is not a great place (or shall I elaborate on why America is a terrible place?).

Now, I think I'm going to take a break from SEN. I bet by the time I finish typing this, there will be another half a page added to the thread >_<. You people type fast.

I think you should elaborate on why America is such a terrible place. I am one of those middle class people who quite like being better than most people.
You seem to be the kind of person who would like living in China, Cuba, or North Korea. Sweden and Norway are not heavily socialist. ( I disagree that it is socialist at all )

Are you kidding me!? Fascism can get anything done within six months! I mean, they took over Denmark during WWII in 17 minutes!

None.

I also want to emphasize that your current lifestyles aren't going to stay like this. You get your stuff cheap because workers in 3rd world countries work for pennies (or the local equivalent) - theoretically, slowly, the world's living standards will converge, which will most likely result in yours decreasing while there's increases. Socialism can probably bring this change around quicker and less painfully.

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0774473.html

the average minimum wage (of all states) in the US has risen from 2008-2009 by about 80 cents. This means that the living rates in the US are still rising, therefore proving that 3rd world countries aren't doing anything about there working standards. There are also other countries such as China that aren't 3rd world party, that produce in massive amounts and are more satisfied with wealth then working standards. So unless "Chinese Communism" is overthrown, or India runs out of homeless poor jobless people (which is highly unlikely in the near future if no major action is taken), we will be fine for a long time.

When the living standards are converged, it will open way for another ambitious leaders and persecutors era, bringing us back to where we started after every deflation. History repeats itself.

I actually disagree, apart from the poor class, there is opportunity in the US.

scwizard essentially defined it as helping. I do not believe financial assistance qualifies - in any case, that definition of imperialism is very iffy, because under the economic and cultural clauses, the world is still rife with Empires.
Fine, we'll call unwanted help "cultural imperialism" :P

But hasn't the cost of living also risen over the past year?

Because the number of people in the workforce is still increasing faster than increased demand. Sooner or later, it's going to max out or workforce increase will slow down sufficiently so that demand overtakes it, and down we go.

And checking scwizard's chart, it seems that the real maximum minimum wage peaked in 1968 and since then has slowly lowered in fits and starts. Actually, the 'Constant' part of your chart tells the same story.

I rarely argue that something will happen, but rather that it should.
