Possibly the nooks and crannies error? Try painting over parts of your minimap picture with a plain terrain tool and see what happens.

I shrunk the size down to 128x128 instead of 256x256 and it worked. I guess it was too much?

Ok, whenever I place the 6 starports (bottom right) on my map, the map crashes. Removes them, and it's fine. Ignore the initial "unplacable unit" error, they are from incomplete triggers.

It works for me?

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

You cannot place buildings and units in the lower right corner because there is the UI menu drawn.
Could u make a pick of the starports in the editor, if you don't think that that is the problem (for recreating that error)?
edit: that's not the problem here.

Oh, whoops, I removed the starports. Just put 6 starports + control center for players 1,2,3,5,6,7 and it crashes.

0 hitpoints control tower....
I can't believe that that took me that long to find...

oh.. So buildings with 0 hp crash the map? Why don't units with 0 crash then? Or is it because of the burning effect?

None.

Jul 2 2010, 2:22 am Heinermann Post #69

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

Only buildings with 0 HP will crash because of the HP % calculation to determine which overlay to use.

I just wanted to report that in my desert strike map giving the P255 geysers to P12 fixed the crashes.

I don't find it worth looking into if it isn't the latest version.

Good day all. My issue is not particularly a map issue, but an issue with the game itself. I decided to post here because my own efforts to fix this error have failed, and I have looked around the internet to find solutions just to find morons who don't know anything about computers or the game itself, until I stumbled upon here and it seems that people here actually understand what these crash errors mean so I thought I would give it a shot. I'm confused because whenever I open starcraft, it immediately crashes, and the error log is always giving a null fault address with the same registers. I have reinstalled sc twice and manually updated the patch, I have run windows updates, updated my video card, etc. The basic troubleshooting things have been done. Anyways here is my log:

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

It's crashing on a call to SBltROP3 (storm ordinal #313).
I don't know if this is related, but there is information on a SBltROP3 crash for older games here: http://qstuff.blogspot.com/2006/01/real-life-fun-sbltrop3-bug.html

However, this does NOT include Starcraft, because that bug has been fixed.

Right now the only things I can suggest are
A) Run as Administrator
B) Disable anti-virus software (or any tools that might modify WinAPI behaviour)
C) Disable Data Execution Prevention (risky, not really recommended but might be worth a shot)

Can you tell me the Operating System and if you're running a Virtual Machine or Emulator?
Again, this bug should not happen on native Windows machines.

what does this mean? invalid item, sprite, or doodad?

This pretty much excludes any Windows after XP. Maybe he's running Win 2000?

Or are updates for OSes like Linux or Mac OS called "Service Packs" too?

There are many things that can create an "invalid graphic". Disabling/Enabling doodad state of units, extended units, sprites that crash, etc.

My brother gets an error message "Starcraft has encountered an error and has to be closed" whenever he loads a single player campaign save game while in a game already or when a map is finished. This makes it impossible to advance to the next level and is generally annoying.
So hopefully you can tell me how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Here's the error log

Wondering what this is, it's an error from SC Beta so idk if you could help me

Jun 29 2011, 3:08 am Heinermann Post #80

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

Quote from NudeRaider
My brother gets an error message "Starcraft has encountered an error and has to be closed" whenever he loads a single player campaign save game while in a game already or when a map is finished. This makes it impossible to advance to the next level and is generally annoying.
So hopefully you can tell me how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Here's the error log

I am not entirely sure what is causing this, all I know is that it has to do with the in-game dialog windows (An OK window?). If your game was modified in any way then a re-install would be the answer. I'm not sure if saving at the very end of a match can cause issues but it does give an in-game error when you save the game after failing a mission.

Wondering what this is, it's an error from SC Beta so idk if you could help me
Storm and Starcraft are version 1.16.1.1, and I am only doing this version in this topic.
Note: Version 97.12.24.4 is probably the date that they compiled it. Can't start the stack with storm.dll so there is not really any information to work with(bad report?).

well I might have found 1 bug for them to fix - some maps load on 32 bit, but not on 64 bit game version

Moose -- martosss
martosss shouted: jjf28 OK, I have 1 more question - are you using 32 bit SC:R or 64 bit ? In game settings there's an option to switch to 32, is it checked? I just tried hosting the map with 64-bit SC:R and it failed... I ticked the option to use 32 bit SC:R => it worked and map was hosted. So I guess the issue still exists for 64 bit SC:R ? I also tried calling a friend and he couldn't see the map when he entered the lobby. Weird, I might have to report this to Blizzard?
IIRC, the plan was to go 64-bit only eventually so they're interested in differences between the versions
