Playable alpha release available!
A versatile boundmaker for those who haven't completely given up on bounding.
If you've played Bounds.scx, this is kind of like that, except a lot better. ;)


SPECIFICATIONS
  • Players
    Requires 2-5 players.
  • Map Tileset
    Twilight
  • Map Size
    32x128


IMPLEMENTED FEATURES
  • Location Selectors (Dark Swarm) and Unit Selectors (Dark Archon)
  • .5x.5 grid offset with 2x2 resolution
  • 10x20 palette
  • 1x1 and 2x2 walls
  • 5 explosion types
  • 9 steps with variable wait times for each step
  • 4 phases: static, dynamic, testing, and final
  • Master reset override
  • In-game Banner


UNIMPLEMENTED FEATURES
  • Fire, Walls w/ Keys, Sucking Trap, Teleport
  • Dynamic Walls
  • Selectable Zergling Speed (slow w/o burrow or fast w/ burrow)
  • Selectable Respawn Location (left or right)

Haha, very nice. It looks complex, yet functional and the terrain choice is nice.

Too bad bounds are not too fun for me because I'm very bad at them, otherwise i'd give it a go. Actually, if I ever get some extra time, I'll give it a go anyway.

o shit, no way!!

Norm, this is a "Make your Own Bound" map, but not with units patrolling... it is actual explosions that you can control timing with and such.. crazy triggering required.

I gotta try this.

I love it and the idea but I recommend using 2x2 terrain squares at the floor because (as far as I can see it from the screenshots) you also can only make 2x2 explosions.

Yeah, I read all that. It's very impressive but I still am very bad at bound maps.

Probably, seeing as how I don't have the talent to complete them, how will I know what the good and bad techniques to making them are suppose to be?

There are 1x1 and 3x3 explosions, but even if there weren't, you can use grid offset to shift the 2x2s by 1 tile.
So I felt a 1x1 checkerboard was necessary.

I was disappointed when playing this because it broke on me (explosions seems to kill it and the dark swarms weren't being removed) and several things weren't selectable (for instance the keys). The reason I was disappointed at all though was because the prospect of it is actually really cool and I wanted to test my awesome creation. Fix the map and finish it up and I will come back.

Kaias, why so harsh? Its not even finished yet.

Brb, gotta try this out. I've always wanted to create Bounds 2 with walls and other similar features, but like normal, I got lazy.

I don't see that as being harsh at all. He gave his criticism, and it definitely wasn't "THIS MAP IS A PIECE OF SHIT WTF" or anything.

Well, after Google turned out to be unexpectedly disappointing, I decided that I would attempt to figure out what a bound map is by playing one.

The one linked in your post appears to require multiple human players, so I can't play it. The one you made (at the bottom of your post) yields the following error message on the map selection screen; the message is shown in place of a title and description.

Invalid Scenario
This scenario is unreadable because it is invalid or corrupted.

I suspect it may be related to my version of StarCraft (which seems to be just slightly outdated), but I don't know how to check the version or get patches.

I never thought the day would come. Bounds were insanely popular maps made en masse around the same time square and rectangular tiles were "discovered." By en masse, I mean like 10 new ones a day. Basically, they're obstacle courses.

Ah. And the way VerB describes their map ("boundmaker"), I assume that players build these obstacle courses in-game? I think I remember reading about something like that. A map where you'd build Sunken Colonies to prevent enemy units from reaching an objective... And if you tried to cheat by blocking the path, the enemies would go nuts and attack the Colonies directly.

This might not be the most relevant area to ask, but does anyone know why I can't load the map? (Also can't view it in StarEdit or SCMDraft2 -- is it protected?)

That's a "Defence" map ;)
Get patches from Blizzard.org or Battle.net or something.. Or just log on Battle.net.


I tried playing the bound =)
Sadly, it glitched on me and spammed UNPLACEABLE the first 5 minutes >:9
Other than that, I really hope the working version of this comes out and VerB. decides to finish it :D
