LoL is a kiddy shitty free game and embodies everything wrong with gaming that Nintendo is currently tied up in. LoL is for casual gamers, and as companies continue to cater to them and alienate their (formerly) loyal fan base (us), I can only feel more bitter and jaded with each ruined franchise.

Conversely HoN is dark, gritty, and has an actual learning curve, same as DOTA. It is exactly what I've been looking for.

What are you asking with this poll? Or rather, why was this thread made? Are we supposed to choose which one will fail first, which one we'd rather play, or which one better rips off DotA?*

* I actually do know what the poll is asking, but this poll doesn't seem like it's trying to promote any sort of discussion.

Say this, I was going to. Judging by it's screenshots, LoL looks like a combonation of Maple Story and WC3's engine.

Though, in the end, they're both DotA clones, and ultimately they're the same game but rooting out in different directions.

Now lets get one thing straight here, nobody makes a game called "LoL" but a crazed fool named DM. Lands of Lingia.

I like League of Legends. It may not be gritty, and it may look colorful, but it's not a bad game. Heck, I find it much easier than DotA to play (You die, you tend to be screwed, or if you don't know the proper item combinations, you're also screwed in DotA.)

Who cares about the graphics. In a competitive game the only thing that matters is if you can see everything that's going on easily. HoN doesn't really do this too well, in my opinion, but it's decent. Either way, graphics are easily the least important thing on my qualities of a good game.

LoL's graphics in my opinion look terrible. I hate cell shading, its why Wind Waker sucked. I further believe it caters to casual gamers rather than serious ones like myself who believe in things like investment and skill. Casual gaming is the cancer killing the industry, as the Wii and its gimmicky nature attest.

So, you're saying the game sucks without even having played it, and it shows. It's not a 'casual' game; it does require skill. It may not be such a high learning curve as HoN, which you seem to still like, but it's a blast to play. Please, don't base a game on just pictures.

And by the by, Wind Waker was a great game, even if you didn't like it because it looked cartoonish. You're only reaffirming that you only like grim-dark games.

A game doesn't have to be grim and dark but it has to have graphics that aren't akin to those I'd find on children's cartoons. Oblivion was quite bright (I used the HDR option) most of the time and I enjoyed it. Warcraft 3 has some semi-cartoony graphics but still managed to look good. There is a fine line and LoL leaped over it.

Either way, you're still basing the game's fun factor on it's graphics rather than it's gameplay, at least in this case. Kinda sad that you have to call a game you haven't played stupid because it has a style of graphics you don't like, and you think it's a 'casual game' without even having played it before, and to top it off, saying Wind Waker sucked because of it's graphics. You're pretty biased if you ask me.

I'd like to point out (from a purely observational standpoint) that you seem to be pushing the graphics idea more than anyone else. You started by blaming LoL's graphics (continually putting words in Excal's mouth) and seem to bring every point back to the graphics despite Excal and Faz talking about other reasons why they don't like the game. And I think everyone is biased, including yourself.

I dislike LoL and HoN because they're stolen rip-offs of a map I don't like play on a game I do like to play. I don't like LoL's graphics because they're cartoons stuck in a WarCraft 3 rip-off. I don't like HoN's graphics because they're even more of a WarCraft 3 rip-off. Having never played either, I'm basing this solely on how similar they look to WarCraft 3. I don't care to play them to find out otherwise. I'm only basing this on the screenshots I've seen, and don't care either way. I am biased.

There is no way to make everyone like the same game. Some will love HoN, some will love LoL, some will love DotA, and some will hate all 3. Arguing about what makes one better or worse is futile.

SC2's new ripoff DotA will own both of them anyhow, graphically and 'fun factor' wise. Just a wild guess.

I don't remember anything about Blizzard releasing a SC2 DotA. Is that just speculation?

Actually, in one of the blizzcon vids they have the bnet screen up, and one thing it says is "DotA allstars" on the map selection... not sure if it was just to be funny or there's an ACTUAL DotA for sc2, but either way, i still think HoN has the best chance of actually making it in the long run.

Also, based on looks, and i've said this before, to me, LoL (lol) looks like candyland mixed with a pony princess palace all the time, with magical mushrooms and overly colored grass and cell shaded wonder! In no way is it as BA as HoN will ever be... period. Plus it's mad imba.

and just to clarify, i have no problem with cell-shaded games, as long as they don't look retarded... if they had made link look the same in windwaker and not made his head 3 times bigger than his body, then i wouldn't have cared. There are some good cell-shaded games out there, but just not LoL.

Also, the HoN learning curve actually makes it funner to play for me... Who wants to be the best at a game they've been playing for a week? Competition is not when everyone's on an equal ground, it's when they both have strengths and weaknesses, and the competition is how well they play off those.

I don't like people that judge a game by it's cover. That's all. I could care less if someone hates a game after playing it, because then, at least, I know they've tried it and can thus create a decent opinion, rather than "It's a stupid kiddie casual game."

I tried it, and formed an opinion in the first five seconds... when they don't support macs... at that point, you know they're just absolutelyfuckinretards.

I realize it's sort of off-topic, but just wanted to address this. During those panels at BlizzCon, they basically said that all the screenshots and animation were mock-ups. They wanted to use DotA as a very specific example as to how all games related to one map will be filtered to one dropdown menu, since you can never find other games on WC3 anymore due to a cluttered list of "DOTA ALLSTARS OMG." I don't remember anything at BlizzCon to suggest that Blizzard is making their own DotA, though, and IceFrog himself has now said he isn't sure if he wants to port it. My guess is they wont do it, unless they pay him to.
