as i was working on my map earlier today, i got "unknown error, creating batch file at " some location. the hell? well i lost alot of work, whats up? where can i retrieve this work?

If it's SCMDraft, open up the backup database. It's under Advanced -> Open Backup Database.
Remember to save often, and save numerous copies.

There doesnt seem to be anything inside it...did i do something wrong?

In the bottom left hand corner of the window that opens up, is there a check in the checkbox that says "Enable Backup"??

if there's nothing in the backup database, and you can't explain why you encountered this error, then yes, your data is lost. Sorry.
