I have a REAL LEGAL version of starcraft and CD key, I am currently making sumthin for the SSMB thing, but I can't participate if I can't start up the game. I lost my cd and have been playing regularly. I decided to go back to modding but need some kinda no-cd thing that cracks the actual exe, so it can load it, or something along those lines. Any help? (Yes, I googled and came up with one crack that uses a file called Loader.exe to load the game w/o the CD, but using firegraft and mpqdraft both use the actual exe to launch the file, I've tried using mpqdraft to load up loader.exe, but no luck). Help would be wonderful.

The BWAIDowngrader automatically makes your SC exe no-cd.
http://www.blizzard.com/store/Register an account, input your CD-key, you can download the game for free.

Just putting a copy of Install.exe in your folder and naming it Brood War.mpq allows you to run SC on current versions with no cd. Getting it cant be that hard, if you want to stay legal that is.

You can only download 1.15.2 from the blizzard store and that version doesn't upgrade to the current version easily without some work. B.net won't recognize the version when you try to connect.

Can't you just manually download and install the 1.16.1 patch? Maybe that's what you meant by "some work", but I wouldn't consider that too much work.

Ya, once you get the 1.15.2 no-cd setup and download our Downgrader, you're good to go. 1.07-1.16.1 no-cd. I recently updated the downgrader to work with the e-install as well. .. at least I think I did. ??
If not check the modding discussion forum on this site and BWAIDowngrader. There should be a few posts there towards the end that describe what to do if the e-installer doesn't work. .. tho I'm certain it was updated with the latest version.

clearly most... if not all of you have misunderstood. I want to STAY on 1.15.1 so I can test a mod using firegraft. I will try BWAI downgrader, if that works. I already have the install exe's copied, renamed, and it all works, just need it for 1.15.1. Thanks for the replies at least.
EDIT: Downgraded with BWAIDowngrader, doesn't ask for disk now, but whenever I try to run any firegraft mod, it says "error patching exe"

hmm very strange. You can run Starcraft 1.15.1 without the CD, but not a Firegraft mod? Maybe Firegraft doesn't like e-installation or something? PM'ing DofA and linking him to this thread.

I need to know the exact error that FG is reporting, and when. There's a lot that can go wrong, so I need to be able to search for the error string in the code to figure out why it's not working.

Hmm, that might not be a FireGraft error. I seem to recall having such an error message in my program, maybe.
-edit-
OK, if the error is "Patching of exe file failed!" (word for word) then that is my exe patch. If that is the case, then it means it either can't find or can't open Starcraft.exe.sfnocd
Does it work on its own, just running Starcraft.exe directly rather than through FireGraft after downgrading to 1.15.1?
BTW, to those who made comments about him having asked for a no cd program for 1.15.1: asking for a no cd program for an older version of Starcraft should be fine, in my opinion, since newer versions don't need the cd. Getting that same feature when running mods on older versions is precisely why I released such a program. Similar existing programs were not sufficient for this use, since they required a loader, so I made one that modifies the exe on disk, making it possible to use mod loaders instead, since loaders often don't support chaining them together (though it is possible for them to be made to do so).

Ya, it gives that error even when I try and start Starcraft. So no, it doesn't work at all, w/ or w/o mods.

Is there a Starcraft.exe.sfnocd file in the same place as Starcraft.exe? This file is specific to the version it is created with (though mismatching them won't cause that error). It contains data used for restoring the program in memory after it has started up.

Looks like he just disappeared or figured out what his SC installation was missing. If he was using the downgrader then it should have placed those files in his directory. And if he has no starcraft registry, I think the program doesn't do anything and prompts the user that SCraft was not found. Can't remember. The downgrader is simply a modified starcraft install.exe and all of its files can be opened/explored with winmpq.
