Alright, I'm thinking of starting up a forum and I have a few questions about it. I've heard of people say it's good, and only thing wrong with it is the long web address, but it can be fixed somehow. SEN also uses this right, with their own custom codes and scripts?
Anyway, how many of you people use it and what do you think of it?
What are the specifications and limitations of it, like how much file storage, max upload file size, max posts/forums, etc on a default board? You can buy for more space, but what is it set to right now without purchasing it?
I know you can upload attachments. But on a default invisionfree board, is there a code to allow you to upload more than one attachment on a single code?
Thanks
None.

SeN never used invisionfree, they used a heavily modified version of invision power board from I believe v3 to v4.
Just set up a server on your home computer and use something like Latova, Pun/FluxBB, or phpBB.

There's also a ton of free phpBB board hosters out there if you want. Also yes, invisionfree isn't a software but rather something that lets people use the software for free, as Syphon said. You can also try SMF.

Invision free is just the most popular but not the best.
The max upload file size is 5MB but the files storage for your whole server is barely 10MB (At least that's what it was when I had Corboland on IFB)
Another thing is that IFB is NOT easily customizable. You have to be a well experienced php coder to make something as simple as a currency system. Not to mention that you don't have access to the MySQL database which really holds you back. Basically all you can do it sit around create forums... permissions for them and that's pretty much it. There is of course people that have coded scripts for IFB but almost everysingle one sucks, the good scripts are for non-free versions of Invision. Plus as you said the long name is a real bitch.
I recommend either considering other forum host providers like phpBB or SMF, although I have personally never used to check how easily customizable they are.
What I'd really go to is with Latova. It's really customizable since it's open source, unlike IFB, if you don't know how to do something you just look at how latova source code does it in another page and you're pretty much settled if you know how to change things, I started with literally no knowledge on php and I did pretty fine, plus you'll have access to the MySQL databases.
The cons of latova is that the setup is manual and you can get confused somewhere although the tutorial in the latova site it's pretty straight forward and that you'll have to find a host with at least 1 mysql database finding a decent one is probably the hardest part. I myself have a copy of latova running on zymic.com if their service didn't suck that bad it'd be a decent hosting. Your other option is to setup your own computer as a server and get a dyndns.
fuck you all
I set up a latova board with tons of Tau's help, and even then it had glitches. Latova is
very difficult for an above-average computer user like myself. If you are used to mySQL and the like, it'll be easier. I'd recommend getting a DynDNS url and using WAMP to host it off your own computer. There's no limits that way, always up unless you have internet or computer problems (or shut off your comp).

Honestly if you couldn't install it you shouldn't call yourself above average.
I could install it perfectly fine and I don't even consider myself average.

Are you kidding? You aren't average and you could set up mySQL tables? Without help?

MySQL tables aren't hard to set up. Can't you technically do it all by copy/pasting into the command board? Or are schemas only manually creatable(which would be weird, since most PHP programs do it by themselves).
Did someone get lazy?

The extent of setting up a Latova board is clicking the import button on the main page of a phpMyAdmin installation, and uploading the .sql file.

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. ANY host you find will also provide you with PHPMyAdmin... Which is pretty much like using word... There's no way you can get lost.
fuck you all
phpMyAdmin? Nubs. I had to manually input all the data Dx

Pfft. phpBB does it by itself.

If you can implement the .sql file like that, I'm pretty damn sure it means you can open it and copy/paste into the command bar of MySQL Query Browser. Which shouldn't take as long a time as you said.

phpBB is also on like v3.0.x, Latova is on something like 0.0.x
