Why not? It makes things a lot easier for me and the players :P.

I also have a new map with all starting units on it:

Totally agreed. I was worried that the Diplomacy phase would actually last 5 days, THEN the Ordering phase. Noty to that, I'd lose intrest.

Anywoot.

EDIT: You should probably put the current map on the main page. I keep going back to it to not find it there.

EDIT2: You misplaced my initial Fleet. In the rulebook, it says that it should be in Ankara, not Smyrna.

It is. It has been there for a few hours.
Though if you want to make a case for putting the map and the player list ABOVE all the gameplay rules, I agree with you. (superimposing the players list somewhere over in any corner but the bottom right or along the left side of the map would help, too)

Hmm.. can two defending armies support each other, so that if someone attacks either one, the other will support it?

None.

We live in a society.

Oh wait, it appears you can. The term is mutual support and it does work.

Really? Something such as mutual support seems to completely kill the idea of cutting support.

None.

Dec 20 2008, 8:31 pm Moose Post #32

We live in a society.

You overcome either one with a move/support strength of 3, or cut support on one and do a supported move with strength 2. It's just a way of ensuring that 3 units are needed to beat 2 and that defending 2 places with 2 armies is easier than a 50/50 guess.

Dec 20 2008, 8:47 pm Forsaken Archer Post #33

Hm. How would a 3 way defense support work then?

None.

Dec 20 2008, 8:59 pm Centreri Post #34

That would depend on whether one army is allowed to support two :P.

None.

We live in a society.

One army cannot support two armies simultaneously. A support triangle can be set up with the same principles. I started drawing a diagram but the text shouldn't be too hard.

The orders:
Code
A(1) support 2
A(2) support 3
A(3) support 1

Establish a support triangle among 1 2 and 3 each defended by a strength of two.

Another playing ordering:
Code
             A(4) move 1
A(5) support A(4) move 1

Will not break into territory 1. A strength of two defending it would meet an equal strength of two.

However, if the other player has a third army:
Code
             A(4) move 1
A(5) support A(4) move 1
A(6) support A(4) move 1

Will displace the army in territory 1 because it has a combined strength of three moving into territory 1.

Alternatively, assuming that A(6) borders territory 3, the other player can order:
Code
             A(4) move 1
A(5) support A(4) move 1
             A(6) move 3

Which will also displace the army in territory 1. The movement of the army in 6 to 3 will cause the support from 3 to 1 to be cut. Thus, the army in 1 would only have a stength of 1 holding it while the other player moving in has a strength of two.

I don't really see a need for such defensive moves at the opening though. Even if you were in such a situation, using armies in the triangle to cut support on the attackers or make a supported advance of your own would probably be more effective. At the opening, expanding and initial combat is more important and rewarding than preparing for a seige or trench warfare.

Ah, so it works like that? Okay. That'd make it rather easy to defend.

Let's have a massive battle with lots of slaughter over Moscow for epic lulz.

Can we move into a territory without taking it?

Can I build artillery to attack moscow from paris?

None.

Yes, Yes, No.

And I'm very offended with #1 and #3. Damn Americans. Read the rules, IP. What if Bush was like you? 'Ooh, what does this very big red button with 'Only for Emergencies' written on it do?' :P

Supply centers are only "taken" in the Fall. If you move in during Spring and move out during the Fall, you don't capture the supply center. Some interesting negotiations and deals can come out of this.
