Predator of Bed Chambers

Soon I am buying a new PC, right now kinda unsure about what I really want. Kinda on a budget and rather not say what it is. So I'm not going to buy a Intel but instead going to buy an AMD, even so not like use to be. This mainly for me to run Starcraft II / Diablo III / World of Warcraft more smoothly with higher FPS. Anyway this kinda the list I put together so far.

One Possible System.. so far..

(PC most likely will get 7.1 Sound card)

Quote
CPU: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core
Motherboard: High End?
Ram: 4GB Kingston, since Corsair right now having issues with XP Pro 64bit windows.
HDD: 1TB 2x500GB SATA-II in Raid 0
Videocard: ATI HD4850 PCI-E 512MB
ROM: Dual Layer DVD Burner
Network: Gigabit Ethernet
Power Supply: 550W Power Supply
Case: Coolmaster one, don't know which one yet.

Could go a bit cheaper and get like..

Quote
CPU: AMD PHENOM X4 Quad Core 9550
Motherboard: 780G Chipset
RAM: 4GB Kingston
HDD: 500gb SATA II
Videocard: ATI 4670 512MB GDDR3
ROM: DVD-RW
Network: Gigabit LAN
Power supply: 550 Power supply
Case: Don't Know

I could make maybe an Intel system like this.. doesn't seem to cost too much..

Quote
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz Q6600 CPU
Motherboard: w/e is compatable
RAM: 4GB Kingston
HDD: 500GB SATA II
Videocard: Performance Discrete 1GB Direct x 10 video card
ROM: DVD-RW
Network: Gigabit LAN
Power supply: ??
Case: Don't know

Unless you guys can give me somewhat of an idea for something somewhat like this that isn't too much.. I guess.

What's your budget? That determines everything.
Wait till Core i7 comes out next month before you buy anything. Processor prices are sure to go down when it does.

Also, for case, I have a Cooler Master RC690 and I love it dearly. Recommended.

Simple as Australia pricing like 50% or more of what U.S is paying for pcs. AMD is cheaper to buy then intel.

The thing about AMD is that they overclock better than Intel processors do.

None.

Citation needed. My E2140 is running @ 3.2GHz as compared to the 1.6GHz stock. 100% OC.

Ah, just looked it up, apparently the newer Intel chips do overclock better and are better to begin with anyway, but I did research for a powerpoint in my Computer Refurbishing class a few months back and AMD was overclocking better.

None.

All those computers look excessive for running any of those games. You should probably stick with something in the $500-600 range if you're just looking to play Blizzard games. Also 4 gigs of ram is a lot if you're not running Vista.

I didn't say I wasn't running Vista and 500-600 pc don't exist in Australia like the U.S -_- to run games like that.

Getting some money through on the 18th of Dec I hope to pay for my new pc and just trying work out what I want.

I'm also buying retail for pc parts, so kinda cheaper.

Moogle if you throw me a USD price range and a few games you're hoping to run, I'll see what I can come up with.

Before 2006, AMD was better than Intel, in just about every way. Once the Core 2 Duos came out, they completely owned AMD and had a much larger overclockability. To keep up, AMD is clocking their processors much higher at the stock speed, so they can make them cheaply and give the illusion of being "better". Generally, if you don't overclock at all, you'll find AMD is the better value, but only at the low end (sub $60 CPUs). Everything else is Intel.

Some people just don't have the money to afford the Intel so it easyest to get AMD which is cheaper. AMD isn't good as it once was but still nice. Kinda like ATI GFX cards play up on me lol; seem to last a few weeks on me and die.

One plus of AMD is the absolute ease of use of installation with the stock heatsink. I have the same problem you have with ATi, but with nVidia instead. 3/3 nVidia cards have failed, 0/3 ATi cards have failed.

I recently got a new monitor back in july a BENQ T221W or something like that.

Speakers using 5.1, keyboard a G15 + a Belkin speed pad, mouse is gaming one so I am set in that area.

BTW, 1,500 to 2,200 is Australian dollars unsure of the U.S dollar conversion right at this time.

All right, I take it from what you've said that $1 USD > $1 AUS, so I'll do what I can.

All right Moog. First off, I went to a site for a conversion:

Then the build:
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137 CM RC690, I have one myself, I love it.
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 Nice Corsair PSU. Should suit you just fine.
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116072 Very OC able, and with the mobo I've chosen, it'll be very easy.
CPU HS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 Nice aftermarket CPU fan to keep your OC'd baby cool.
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359 Good Gigabyte energy saver mobo. Easy to OC with.
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 4GB DDR2 1066
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 640GB
DVDDrive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135176
GFX Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161236 HD4870. I usually go Nvidia, but for the price, this is a great card.
Soundcard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829271001

Total with tax and ship to my area: $998.80 USD.
998.80 USD = 1,551.31 AUD

If you'd like any changes, let me know.

Kinda was looking go quad core, over dual core.

Really I don't know, since quad core can run a little better then dual core.

Although I heard Intel Quad core only runs single core for gaming, while amd doesn't.. hmm.
