The idea occured to me after reading this:

PQ, we'll talk about what I want to do, probably via pm on BWAI, since I'm low on space here.
DoA is a very important figure for current modders. I know he likes and needs to keep many PMs due to the relevance of their contents to FireGraft. On this forum, we have a number of high-profile developers. It would be nice if we could recognize their efforts, but moreso facilitate their work by granting them certain account advantages that would be beneficial to their projects. Lifting or raising certain limitations, such as the PM limit, could be a boon to such professionals.

The important questions: Who qualifies? What do they get?

Is it fair to the average poster? Well, you could choose to perceive inequality in it, but I'd prefer to see this as an opportunity to show our support to those who make our ideas feasible. What they get should strictly be things that can assist with their project's development. The specifics, though, would need to be discussed in greater detail if the initial idea is well-received. Who qualifies is another matter that will need deeper consideration, too.

Thank you for your time.

I wouldn't mind giving extras to 'all-star' map/mod makers that actually need it. Like Tuxedo or Millenium.

By dispensation only, I have no objections - the basis is purely practical to aid people who need the space.

It might undermine having all that stupid crap for sale for minerals, but whatever.

I'd only support this if it was given to people who actually make programs or some kind of actual utility. Mappers and modders don't need anything special especially people like Mill or Tux. Even with their popular projects it's not like they're being flooded with PMs and I don't see any other privileges they would need.

Unless there's some other privileges you can suggest I don't think there needs to be a whole separate division of accounts. I think it should be dynamic and anyone should just be able to request it IF they actually need it. There are some people who don't PM at all and some people who PM a lot. There are already PM storage increase items people can buy, so I think if a developer needs the space then an Admin like Moose can just give them the increase. There's no need to create a group for them.

I also think that DoA is probably one of the only developers here (another is SI) let alone one of the only ones who seems to be needing more PM space. I don't think it's a good idea to create a new group of accounts just for one person or have to search for people who might qualify as a developer in order to fill up the group, but don't really need the space to begin with.

I think if DoA needs more PM space that can just be handled as a single case.

Also, if it were to be for developers then I think they should just get a special "Developer" title/status rather than call it a "professional" account.

Exactly. This kind of thing should be addressed case by case and directly to Moose. No special group is required, nor is telling the public that someone is getting more pm space, or whatever it may be.

Heh, I happened to grab most of the negative items earlier today so I have enough I also have applied the +75 I got and finally upped my space. While it was annoying when I didn't have a bunch of minerals, it's not too bad right now. But originally it was a hassle, because I was always 2-3 away from being full. Either more space(on case by case) or a good archive feature is all I'd need. Most other forums I only keep the space because I archive pm's every once in a while. A bit harder to find afterward, but I still have them somewhat easy to search through. Pure text copies are hard, especially when I forget to order them properly or date them.

she/her

Shouldn't there just be a "Download PMs" button instead, if it's not already there? It's pretty trivial to waste server space and bandwidth by keeping the PMs online.

I remember back on v4 it would email PM's and stuff.

Here's what one of the emails looked like:

Being a newer member who doesn't have a chance of getting this kind of benefit, I object :P

Just kidding.

But logically the older members will have lots of pm space and stuff anyways because they have so many minerals to spend on them, right? And if you feel like they haven't really posted a lot, give them minerals to help them out! And this is all part of the fun of SEN right?

I wasn't kidding I do object.

Nothing personal of course :D

Then again.. I guess I wouldn't really know since I'm not an older member.... :ermm: OK well whatev you have my opinion! :D

Anyways, I wish SEN v5's PM system is just like SEN v4.1's. I'd love to go over the limit and forcing people to send me minerals as messages.
That's what happens if my maps are that great but I could care less about the private message limit. I wouldn't find any use of more space, you might as well just send a forward message to all of the same PMs if each are by a different individual then delete it. But if you like to keep those private messages for years, then just purchase more PM space from the store. They cost negative minerals anyways.

While you can see all the information about a message, you can't search it for text(yes, I've had some from people long enough that search is sometimes needed.)

Just saying. ;)

So select the text, CTRL+C and CTRL+V into a text file.
Theoretically, in time, some sort of export function can be coded.
