I'm trying to think how hip hop or rock could possibly be romantic, and failing miserably..

Well, you see, if you think of rock as in black metal or something like that, you're excused. However, rock has spread out in so many genres that differ so much between each that it isn't so hard to find a rhythm that "suitable" for love songs. As for Hip-Hop, I can't back up any kind of argument since I don't listen to it...

That is true. The vast majority of genres it spawned fall flat though.

But in all seriousness, I support this suggestion:

OHH. I know another good one. It's older, but it will always be a classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

When you're done generalizing, there is a type of rock known as "acoustic". It doesn't involve very loud things. It doesn't have high amounts of distortion. In fact, sometimes there aren't amplifiers! Or even electronics at all! I know, insane right? But such a thing does exist. :P

But seriously.
Oasis - Wonderwall
Boston - More Than a Feeling
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (!)
Foo Fighters - Everlong (you can grab decent acoustic versions of this)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DctCyO-E3s (rip the MP3 off YouTube :P)
Tenacious D - Fuck Her Gently (if both of you have the sense of humor for you to get away with it :P)
Muse - Hysteria
Journey - Faithfully
Lynrd Skynard - Free Bird
Iron Butterfly - Ina Gadda da Vida
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O Mine (they have other, dirtier stuff too :P)
Sugarcult - Memory (there is an acoustic version of this, too.)
Plain White Ts - Hey There Delilah (It kills me to add this, but yeah.)
RCHP - Under the Bridge (well, not really a love song.)
Rise Against - Swing Life Away (this one, too.)
The Strokes - Reptilia (actually, they have other stuff, too, but I just picked one song. It's not really acoustic, though. :P)
Some Billy Joel might work.
Of course, the Beatles.
A lot of Coldplay stuff is good.
How about Hendrix? :P
And maybe some Radiohead if you're into that. Something like "High and Dry" is nice.
EDIT: I forgot Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight.

That's pretty much all I can pull off the top of my head without getting into heavier stuff.

I personally like rock mixed love songs over the traditional love song. I despise hip hop in all forms.

Yes... that is a love song. If you don't want to listen to it (I don't blame you) listen to the last minute and 40 seconds, awesome guitar solo.

Or perhaps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dHnkBRvVH4
wayless intense, nevertheless a pretty good song, heh, whatev.
