I got a new computer, and installed FF as soon as I could. I had my IE icon and my FF icon on my desktop. After some time, my IE icon suddenly turned into a FF icon, and its name was changed to "Internet". If I click it, it opens up firefox. WTF? I know I can use the Start>Programs menu, but I feel like restoring my IE icon even though I don't use the program.

Help please.

I believe that icon links to whatever your default internet browser is, and when you installed Fx, it became your default.

I have both at the same time and they have never caused me any trouble. For some reason my middle brother (being me the youngest of them) likes IE 7.

...and how to change that? Is there a status such as "equal"?

What do you mean, 'equal'. You want it to randomize which browser starts when starting up or something? If you want an IE icon, just go into the IE directory, create a shortcut, and put it on the desktop. The icon that changed is just your default browser, that leads to firefox - it's not actually a firefox shortcut.

The original IE shortcut was the shortcut for what Windows defaults for opening web pages. When you start Firefox up, it'll ask you if you want to make Firefox the default for web pages. By saying yes, that IE shortcut changes back to Firefox. To get IE back to the default, just start IE. It'll tell you that it isn't the default browser and give you the option of making it the default browser.

There is no such status. You can only have one default web browser so if you want a link to both on your desktop then you're going to have to create a link for one of them. Not that difficult, just alt + drag the program to the desktop or drag and drop a shortcut.

I see. Thanks. :)

@Centreri: what I mean by "equal" is that the IE shortcut doesen't turn into the FF shortcut. ;)

Then you mean to have IE as your default browser. because that's what the Internet icon displays. It isn't a shortcut. :P
Make a seperate IE shortcut if you want Firefox as your default but to have both links. In fact, I would just make two shortcuts and delete the "Internet" one, it's redundant.

The reason they did that was so many people installed firefox but forgot to run it out of habit of starting IE.
