I've played this Firefighters RPG, where you control a bat, and you have to 'spray' (Attack) buildings to stop the fires.
How does this work, cause I wanna do something like that in an RPG I'm making, and I have absolutely no idea of how to do it...

That was Tuxlar's. IIRC, there are burrowed lings underneath each building. When you attack the building, you kill the lings. This is known as a Virtual HP or VHP system.

That method of entering vehicles wasn't made by Tux, lotsa people used it before he did.

Ironically in the firefighters map, bats are actually burning the buildings, lol. Weird how fire puts out fire in my opinion. It was still a great map, but hard going solo on it. :[

He could use an archon. That kinda looks like water. Or... STACKED UNIT SPRITES!!! You could have the marine as the firefighter, and a stacked and invisible archon!
I don't know what that would look like, but it might look like the marine is shooting water!

or a hydra... but then that would look like green water squirts...

Yeah, but a firebat looks like a fireman :P

then someone needs to mod their attacks to some water attack

You can have the bat constantly allied to the player owning the buildings, then, when the firebat/fireman walks up to the building, you unallie it for a brief time so that the firebat brings its arms up, but doesn't attack. The invisible archon underneath will attack, of course. Just make the archon unallied for a longer period of time.

I wanna know, how did the ling get under the building in the first place? Is it something you have to do in the editor? or is there a trigger?

Jun 5 2008, 8:33 pm Falkoner Post #12

Nah, be preplaced them burrowed underneath the buildings.

You can also use create unit with properties to create burrowed zerglings somewhere else. Then move them to the building and they'll be moved under the building.

Really? I didn't even know you could do that. What happens if the ling unburrows?

Jun 5 2008, 9:49 pm The_z0r Post #15

The zerglings will move all over the place, attempting to find a valid spot to stand.

That's awsome. I'm planning to put this into an RPG I'm making, and this'll be a medium-ish part of importance.

Okay, I made a small test map on this... And it isn't working.
Check it out if you want, but I'll break it down here.

Conditions:
Always
Actions:
Move all [any unit] at location 1 to Under Building
Preserve Trigger

Conditions:
Player 2 controls at most 0 Zerg Zergling at Under Building
Actions:
Create 1 Zerg Zergling at Location 1
Apply Properties: (Burrowed)
Preserve Trigger

I'm thinking that having the Burrowing tech disabled might be making it so the Ling doesn't burrow, but in other maps I've seen this work fine...

Yeah, burrow must be enabled for them to have a burrowed unit, unless you give it from another player.

Can they unburrow without having burrow researched?

EDIT: No, right?

?????

Humans cannot unburrow, without it researched, but computers can.
