layin' in the cut

So, as some of you may know, today is my 15th birthday (!) and as a gift my parents gave me an XBox 360 Elite (!!!!) biggest gift I have ever received.

Anyway, I was wondering what some suggestions are as to what game I should get first. I know there are a bunch of sweet games like

-Bioshock
-Call of Duty 4
-Halo 3
-Gears of War

etc etc

Please note that as of now I don't have Live, as I have no AP to an ethernet connection to where it is now, so please just take that in to consideration.

While I am allowed M-rated games, I don't think my parents would take well to games like GTA 4 or games with extreme violence (manhunt-ish) or sexual themes.

Also, I have an external hard drive of movies and I know I can play them on the 360 or stream them, but can I actually transfer them to the harddrive?

Dungeon Master

Bioshock ftw. It's the only one I can really recommend with any certainty.

how much is an xbox 360 going at now-a-days anyways? is it really worth buying one (knowing i would be able to get a live membership as well)

i think they go for 250-300 orsomething.

Bioshock and Rainbowsix vegas/2 and Cod4

None.

Define 'extreme violence'. 3 of 4 of the games you have listed there have quite the high amount of blood and gore. I didn't really like Gears of War that much, I think it was really overhyped. Get Endwar when it comes out.

You can't go wrong with Bioshock, The Orange Box, or any game series that used to be exclusive to the playstation (ie: Ace Combat and Armored Core).

Plug it into the USB port and try that?

There are also less direct methods that you could try if that doesn't work.

In central america electronics and games cost almost double the price they do everywhere else. They make up for it by modding systems to play burned games and sell/rent burned games at stores.

This is to a certain point true.
They sell, movies, video games and consoles and almost everythign electronic almost to a doubled prize to make up with the losses in Central America.
Mexico and CA have grown very fast and strong on piracy, I myself do not buy anything burnt, I like to buy original stuff but unlike chu said you do not buy burnt video games and find modifications of PS3 and Wii and all of that on legal stores. You find them, literally on dangerous streets and places I would never go to since I'm so picky :P

I find this EXTREMELY STUPID, they put really high prizes to "make up for losses" and that only makes people want to buy pirated stuff even more. And the ones affected are us, the ones that pay for original things, lame.

But yeah, I'd never buy a 360.

fuck you all

I don't know where you live or how it is for you, but where I lived (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) you find modded consoles or places to mod consoles just about anywhere. You don't have to go into any dark alleys or dangerous streets. I know a local chain (the equivalent of blockbuster - I think they were called videobuster or something like one word off of blockbuster actually) used to mod consoles for like 200 lemps which was roughly $13 US and sell games for 300 lemps or rent them for 60 lemps. If you had the means you could save 240 lemps and just burn the copy yourself at home which is what a lot of people I knew down there did (a lot). The prices and consoles have, of course, changed since I last saw them. But the practice remains. For cartridge consoles people really had no choice but to buy the originals unfortunately.

Given the choice I would buy the copied games myself. You're saving roughly $60 to use copied games and there is no negative aspect of it except the lack of cd-art and booklets for games. Who cares about that shit anyway I know I trash that stuff 50% of the time.

I live in San Salvador and we have tons of good malls here and the only legal videogame store doesn't do any modifications or anything. I didn't mean Dark alleys I meant dangerous places, did you not read? The historical centre (downtown) in El Salvador is VERY dangerous and that's a place you go buy that stuff then there's the flea market which is also rather dangerous. So I don't know what the hell's wrong with Honduras allowing stores to sell pirated video games but in here a legal store will never sell you piracy.

And I understand that you do not find any problem with buying burnt CDs. I just do not support piracy, that's all.

fuck you all

Just to be clear, I don't find any problem buying copied games down there because the prices were buttfucking high. I legally purchase everything I own now that I live in the US again.
