I remember stacking Zerg buildings used to be possible but with a patch fix a while back, it was changed and made impossible. Is there any way to get the buildings to stack without pre-placing them? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it got patched, but if you can't stack buildings with a hotkey-ed drone and vision switched off to yourself, then there is no way.

But I know Protoss buildings are still stackable by that method.

Theres multiple ways of stacking buildings.
For example... heres 3 of them.

One is lightswitch stacking... used alot in defenses.
Lights off with a hotkeyed probe or SCV... and build. Many of you are familiar with this.

This works with Terran and Protoss. (you can also have the Buildings that can lift off and all that jazz... They can Build addons in the dark, or land in the dark.)

The other is Pre-Place stacking. a few Stacked Sunken Defenses are still "stackable"... but to a limit.
Basically the sunks are pre placed, and all you do is have an ultralisk kill its way through, making the path... and theres "pre placed" sunkens that are "stacked". All of you are familiar with this.

There is ONE more way to have Zerg stackable... with the lights.... I remember doing this for one of my old sunken D maps that got killed by the 1.14 patch.
This method requires that the player commands a Liftable Building (CC or Barracks.. Factory... Starport... etc.)
There also needs to be a lightswitch.
And... the Zerg race with Drones.

Basically, you start with the lights on.
Then, you have the drones build the first layer....
Then , have the building (Hotkeyed as 2) land ontop of the sunks while the lights are off.
Turn the lights back on, and lift off the building. You can have drones stack wherever the building was.

There are very very slight alternatives to this... you can have a probe build pylons, and then just kill off the pylons after you turn on the lights.

Hope i helped! :}

I thought it was only that you couldn't DIRECTLY stack Zerg buildings, another way is to kill a building, and even if there's another building under it, you can still build there.

Well, lets see, i can come up with a few ways:

If you build a turret, remove it, and create a creep colony in its place (Downside, can't stack on it afterwards!)

This is another way (think it was already mentioned)

Create building with drone.
Land INFESTED CC(IMPORTANT) on the building.
Lift off INFESTED CC.
Continue

Downside to that, can't do units smaller than the infested cc >.< (it makes things go boom!)

Well, units are a different story ^^

well... thank you Friut for repeating EXACTLY what i said except for changing the building to a worse one.
Dont use infested CC btw. It has a tendancy to blow up sunks sometimes. Use a regular CC.

Bascially if there are stacked buildings, and you kill one while the lights are on, you can build another. Lifting off the CC will simulate that, and you can easily stack. Do i need to make an example?

Thigh high affectionado

There's always a way.

But you'd have to go though the good ol' sprite stacking process.

Place spirte of unit, properties > click unit at bottom, check enabled/disabled.
Enable unit
Move unit
Order unit
Move unit
Give unit
Move unit to where you want em.

But then you are stuck with the sprite limit...
