FYI, Blizzard made Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft at the same time. The fact they're hiring new people means they want to keep the people working on WoW, they want to keep their team working on SC2, but they want a whole new team of people to produce this new game.
Lets take a look at why it more than likely won't be Diablo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_North Ok, now on to what it really might be. The code name for the project is 'Hydra'. So it sounds like its going to be Starcraft oriented based on this information. The third possibility (since people will still consider Diablo 3 a possibility for some reason) is that its something completely new or dealing with a not-so-well-known Blizzard game ... or should I say Silicon & Synapse. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well the "hydra" bit is news to me.
SC2 is going to be much bigger profitwise than WCIII, they really won't wanna compete witht themselves for SC2, however, since SC2 is supposedly almost done, they may actually be making a SC MMO. Although there's virtually no chance that Blizzard would hire a completely new team for something so important. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Eh has a gauss rifle and eh doesnt afraid of anything.

Sure there is. With a completely new team they can run two MMO's and still produce more games (which means, despite Blizzard North not existing, they might even do a Diablo sequel). And don't think WoW is just going to die and disappear, they'll remake it with better graphics and gameplay or expand the story (probably through WC4) and make a newer version of WoW before they lose that cash cow.

Fair nuf.
I agree, I can see them making a new wow, but they wouldn't make it better graphics, the idea with the shitty graphics is so everyone can play, increasing your audience, especially on an MMO, where low FPS coupled with the ceaseless lag can cause major problems for players. Hence, a simple low poly and low resolution textured game. Sure you can bump it up, but it's still pretty ugly compared with say, HL2 or other games released around the time of WoW. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Eh has a gauss rifle and eh doesnt afraid of anything.

This is one reason why I like Blizzard sometimes. They try to make their games compatible for most computers. WoW, although at full graphics isn't too amazing, it can still look pretty good. And Warcraft, being a more fantasy-type game, the cartoonish polygons work well for the game. My friend has a crappy Intel integrated chipset to produce his displays instead of a graphics card, and he can still run WoW. It doesn't look great but it can still run. I'm sure that they can release more enhanced and greater graphics than the current WoW, and still have the crapside looking version of the game for those who wish to play with their crappy PC. Increasing the range of computers that can run the game allows for more $$$, which most people at the company are likely after, and makes everyone happy! So, I'm sure if they do remake WoW so they don't lose their cash cow, they will increase the graphics to make it more appealing, but at the same time, allow the game to be played on the low-end PCs.
But anyway, back to the topic. I think the unannounced MMO may be a Starcraft MMO, since WCIII and WoW started production around the same time, so it may be likely that SCII will be produced with Starcraft MMO to hit the bigger audience of gamers. And hiring another team to develop the Starcraft MMO will allow them to run two MMOs at the same time, as chui. said. Also, again, like chui. said, the original developers for Diablo II have left Blizzard, and it may be unlikely that Blizzard will produce an MMO off it, however it is possible considering how close, but not really Diablo II was to an MMO. This isn't to say that Blizzard will not evolve the series and make another sequel, but in my honest opinion, if they did make a third game in the Diablo series, the story wouldn't make too much sense... Baal, Diablo and Mephisto are all dead. The Worldstone Chamber has been corrupted, the world has been saved but will never be the same again blah blah. Who's left to kill? Unless Diablo had another brother, which seems unlikely, there's not much that remains to continue the series. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, you don't need diablo.
In an MMO, you can't have the big bad guy involved. Otherwise, he's gone forever, 1000000 raids have killed the bugger. He's not coming back for a sequel [Yes, Illidan is gone forever people.] So the mmo could just be the diablo universe, as everyone is cleaning up as it were. Finishing off the remaining monsters etc. I see where you're coming from... Who knows ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Eh has a gauss rifle and eh doesnt afraid of anything.

Hydra is a spell that you will always see in D2 Especially if you baal run for 3 hours straight.
Hellfire torches have level 30 hydra (Probably one of the most popular items in D2 besides Nigma BP's) The council members spam it like it helps. 3 reasons. >:D ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() - Dark_Marine - CheF's back baby [=]:3

If there is ever going to be a Starcraft MMO it is likely to come right after SC2. If an expansion pack for SC2 comes out that has an extremely obnoxious, shitty storyline where all the characters perform actions that make no sense for them, that would be a pretty good sign that they're setting up the SC Universe to handle an MMO.
