Making a new unit out of a critter

I dont seem to need any critters in the mod. I almost never used them in my maps.
So reflecting this, how do I go about turning a critter into a legit unit, for example into a protoss tank? would I just replace the graphics sets and change the iscript? Where in the iscript does it cause the critter to aimlessly never cease "grazing"?

It's in the AI portion of units.dat.

Yes, just change its graphics (or not), iscript, and .dat settings.

You will also have to change its button set.

Just copy and paste a normal unit entry (e.g. Zealot) and paste it over the critter entry in Units.dat. Modify it as needed, including changing the graphic back to the critter graphic so that it changes when you replace it. You won't have all those issues.

Update: Everything is going well except for changing the Scantid into a unit. It keeps crashing in staredit when I select it to place it.
I'm going to give up on using one of the units I have. But there are a few things I would like to have done:
There are two custom units i have as well as the Interceptor, Arbiter, Robotics Support Bay, Shield Battery and Pylon that I want to change their colors to match the Dark Protoss scheme I have (I downloaded it from Maplantis). I would like help on how to match the colors.

Thanks a lot man. If you're genuinely interested in being a voice actor, It'd be cool if you play the role of either Joseph Richter, CEO of Atrium Corporation, or the leader of the Heretic Protoss (I haven't made any names yet). And yeah, I already have the Dark Protoss. They don't have a Dragoon either. Although I added the "Terminator" Dragoon. I still have to test it.

I can do both. I'm a very experienced voice actor and I do my own edits and sound effects.

Still tinkering around with the palettes and whatnot. Hopefully I'll have something for you soon.

Thanks. Sounds good. I will write up a script soon. After the mod is done I'm going to start map-making. I have to hurry because my girlfriend and her friend are doing voices and they only have the holidays before they go back to uni. She keeps her badass-quality mic at home and she lives away for uni.
the Terminator Dragoon is kind of cruddy but if I got nothing else it will be sufficient. I'm thinking of disregarding the Observer and giving detector and cloakability to the replacement for the Scout. It'll give a tad bit of variety. I still need a kind of tank unit for the 'toss, and I have something from maplantis that looks to be derived from the arbiter that apparently was planned to replace the vulture... kind of amateurish but sprites done in that manner are my favorite. I don't like the other ones.

Then what exactly do you need? Interceptors, Arbiters, and Shield Batteries in the same red/grey colour scheme?

When you have the unit lines and/or script PM me and I'll shoot you a few trials. I'm available pretty much whenever so you don't need to worry about me running away to some far-off land.

excellent.
What I need are interceptors, arbiters, pylons and shield batteries in that colour scheme.
If you could do Dragoons, that'd be much appreciated. And maybe if the crystals in the Pylons looked like they were cracked straight off of something similar to the khaydarin crystal formation. Ooh! Could you do a dark reddish version of the Khaydarin formation too if it's not too mcuh to ask?

sorry for complaining, isn't the scheme supposed to be gold=grey and blue=red?
Also, I am having trouble with giving the Firebat castspell in iscript. Got any pointers?
Also, this just came up, I discovered that the archon's "man" within is still bluish, which looks tacky against the crimson energy provided by the DP pack. any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you're saying. There is no gold colouring in the DP pack. Make sure you've selected 'units.pal' and not 'icons.pal' when previewing, and import the graphics into the actual game before you judge (just as a general rule).
IIRC Firebat has an issue with the castspell opcode. Ask Biophysicist.
Not sure about the Archon. As far as I know, there's no specific graphic for that, but double check in WinMPQ.

I know, I meant that gold of the original units turns to silverish.
I just checked it out in StarEdit, it looks as displayed. Doesn't exactly match the dark scheme...
Also, I just tested out the palette ingame, and I attempted to warp a few structures in to see how the warp looks, and it crashed right away. Any suggestions?

The Archon man thing is a separate Inge; iirc, it's labeled "Archon Being".

What's wrong with your Firebat, exactly?

When do the warping structures crash, and what did you do them?

Did you implement the texture grp included with the DP pack?
If it doesn't match, it doesn't match. I'm not going to spend my Christmas weekend toiling over hundreds of frames for you, though. I don't even do that for myself.

it just won't compile as for the iscript.
I can't apply a castspell opcode because it won't allow compiling.
AS for the warping, the probe only has a graphics swap. I'm not testing anything in firegraft yet. All I did was apply the Dark Protoss graphics to the mpq, which includes a warp rift grp. I just started a nexus warp and it instantly crashed. That's all I did.
Do you know anyone other than pr0nogo who can do graphics editing?
Also, how can I change the color of a hallucination sprite?
