Hmm well.. I have looked at google, bing, forums, helps, faqs and still do not have a definitive answer to the following question: Can I install a radeon 8800 series or equivalent video card on my DELL studio 1555? This is such a priority for me, seeing as how I need it in order to use higher settings on SCII and the editor. :-(

None.

You need to find out what kind of slot the motherboard in the dell has, what kind of slot the radeon 8800 requires (probably PCI x16?), the dimensions of the space left available for the video card in the laptop (if there's any at all) to compare with the dimensions of the card, and what kind of cooling a radeon 8800 is going to require. I have an Nvidia 8800M in my laptop and it has destroyed my motherboard so badly that I had to send the comp back to the manufacturer for repair. Cooling problems suck.

My guess: Probably not. Video cards for laptops are specially made to fit the laptop configuration/cooling requirements.

What is a "radeon 8800 series"? I have never heard of such a thing for a laptop?
You need to find out if your laptop has an MXM slot.

You need a 9800 radeon, and that's on a desktop. Get a new computer. mobility is down a tier, and even then the 9800 will barely run sc2.

Why would he NEED a 9800? They are so old.
He should just build a new desktop with a Radeon HD 5670.

I'm pretty sure he meant a GeForce 8800. Radeon doesn't make sense.

The minimum system requirements for the Starcraft II Beta are as follows:

PC Minimum Requirements:
• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
• 1024x768 minimum display resolution
• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
• Broadband connection
because Blizzard says you need a radeon 9800.

I did.

Ok so.. I looked at my computer and it has this under "display adapters" - "Mobile Intel (R) 4 series Express Chipset Family" I cant tell if thats integrated or not. If it is integrated, its a big issue? I went on the internet and found this "http://www.notebookcheck.net/Upgrade-Replace-a-Notebook-Video-Card.3236.0.html" and its saying I would need one of those MXM, Axiom, or a "dell slot"? Is this saying on Dell computers past 2004 you CAN change out integrated cards?

And I dont need a new card to play starcraft.. Just to play it better.

EDIT:
Also because it was a custom computer from DELL wouldnt they need to make a basic computer then be able to adjust that basic model when building different ones? From a manufacturers standpoint.. Building the shell, then adding on different components depending on the order would make sense for speed. Making it easier then, for me, to change out the graphics card..
