Hi there SEN users, this is my first map to be released for Starcraft 2. If you have played Pylon Defence in sc1, you should already know the idea of this map. For those who don't know, the basic idea of this map is this: players construct one pylon and lot's of cannons (usually stacked) to protect their pylon from masses of enemies. In sc1, cannons are invulnerable, making it easy to defend against melee-hitting enemies, so I decided to make cannons vulnerable in my sc2 version of map. Also, players are limited to ONE 'main' Pylon, if it dies, they lose (there are non-main pylons that can be constructed for extra power grid).
Teamwork is vital to beat this map, if everyone builds wherever they want, they will be pwnd by first level. If they stick together and communicate, they have good chances to win.

Right now, Pylon Defence still needs more levels, kill rewards and balancing so I haven't released it yet.

Map specifications:
  • Map size: 192x192
  • Tileset: Aiur
  • Players: 6 users + 1 computer
  • Difficulty: Near impossible for bnet nubs, unless they know well what to do.

Progress:
  • Terrain: 100%
  • Levels: 11 completed (each level has about 3 waves), more coming...
  • Rewards: 3 kill rewards atm (Force field generator, Raven and Infestor), more coming...
  • Towers: Right now there is only Photon Cannon. I'm not sure if there is even needed any other towers.
  • Balancing: Early levels are balanced, but later not, because it takes some time to reach em everytime I test the map with my friends (without cheats).

How'd u make the pylons stack?

Open up Data editor > Pick structure > "Movement - Collide" > Uncheck everything

You must do the same thing for the builder (i.e. probe) too, or you can't stack more than one building on one spot.

I could pretty much release this (after few modifications). It doesen't have many levels right now but I can do more over time. Right now publishing is down unfortunately (in eu).

I need map publishing to test my map with some friends first.

However, patch 16 screwed up pylon defence. Unit modifications are screwed, and leaderboard isn't working properly anymore. I may have to re-create my map :/
I'll wait til 27th and then I'll try to fix my map because it might get screwed up again if I fix it now...

My pylon defence is slightly different from the original, but idea is the same: protect pylon and build cannons. In original version players can easily beat all melee rounds by building cannons around the pylon (because cannons are invicible), tha is no longer possible in my version of pylon defence :P

Key to victory is to stick together and build craploads of cannons on high ground, and take advantage of several 'special reward units'.

ETA on this map is 27th + 1-5 days depending on how fast mail travels + how long it takes for me to beat campaings + few days of fixing, adding levels and testing + possible blizzard delays, such as map publishing down

Alright, I'm re-creating this map. I will be using campaing as base for more reward units and such, and I will create entirely new terrain with lots of props and such to make it cool.

Can you post what sort of reward units you're planning to give?
Also, it'd be cool if the person has a choice of 1 of 2 reward units.
I also feel that warp prism, i.e. portable pylon power, should DEFINATELY be one of the reward units... in fact, it should be an early one!

Moreover, with the new and powerful editor, you can do all sorts of new units, but I'm interested to know whether you're gonna keep the units the same as they are, or different (as in messing with the data editor to produce ultralisks that nukes things and etc.)
Also, what sort of boss levels are you going to do?
You also said that pylons are walkable (as in you can walk through them)... I'm not sure if this is the best idea.. wouldn't it be possible to make it so that smaller units can walk through it or something, despite it being able to stack? I dun't know D:

And finally, how're you gonna improve on Pylon D Alpha Land? If it's going to be basically the same thing, that is fine... but it'd be cool if you implement something more :D ...

I'm trying to keep data editor usage minium because I don't like it so much (it's so complicated uh-huh), but I will add lot's of reward units. Warp prism is good idea, I'll add it after I have finished making terrain. Right now there is two boss levels (5. and 10.), which are 'super-queen' and 'yo mommaship'. Units can't walk through pylon/cannons. Stacking is kinda tricky, player must first build cannon on his probe and then he can 'walk on buildings' and stack more cannons on them, I'll try to make that probe flying unit so stacking would be easier.

Ofc I will be improving Pylon Defence as much as I can with my current skills. :P

My english might be kinda confusing sometimes so ask if you didn't understand something :D
