World
Down to its basic inspiration would be Life Of A Civillian. Now that we got that piece of crap out of the way lets move onto something bigger and better. There are going to be two versions of this, basic game sounds and the long DL with all sounds Included.

I have based this map off of the idea of a living society that corresponds as you would normally think it would. Cops jail you for breaking the city laws. Jobs that are fun and pay so that you can purchase items that add to gameplay value. Or you can break laws and run the underground bribing authority figures and honing your skill as bad guy. I took the idea of Paragon and Renegade and added it because I really enjoyed it in mass effect 2.

This is a sandbox / scenario map. Meaning in the beginning you can select Sandbox which will just start the city within normal game parameters with no external storyline influences (Great for people who would like RP) and also several fun scenarios that appeal to my taste because I have an interest in the end of the world by Zombies.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Players
4-6 human players. 4 Players are a definate after all is done and if there is room 2 more players will be added.]
  • Map Tileset & Size
    [i]Platform 256x256.
Originally Life of a civillian only used half of its 256 size with all locations and nearly all triggers used. Luckily it was made in the dark ages and this map will be more efficient.

General features:
  • Trigger Trees
    - Wanted System , Cops seize your belongings if they can't find you and will attempt to bring you in before killing you.
    - Vehicle System , Own multiple vehicles (be sure to lock them up so renegades steal it)
    - Stealing System , Steal from thy neighbor
    - Relationship System , Develop relationships from hookers to kittens.
    - Job System , many jobs that will not be monotonous
    - Paragon / Renegade system , Reflects how society views you and what choices are available to you.
    - Muted , basically this just warns other players a certain player is unable to read their text due to a cinematic transmission or the like which uses up the whole text field.

  • Character thoughts - There is an option I implemented inspired by Heavy Rain PS3, Your characters thoughts will reflect and reveal important updates in your characters life you may have overlooked.

  • Different Strokes for different Folks
    - Different Parts of the city have different lifestyles
    - Scenario Provides a horror / survival experience
    - Disease is a part of the game. Don't go running around sexing up every hydrant you see.
    - Yes sex is apart of the game so don't get raped by renegades.

SCREENSHOTS

Here you can see the inventory system. Red is Renegade, green is paragon. The Archon is the characters "Thoughts" which I just unloaded so it displayed hes tired.
This is only a screenshot so you can't see that hunger appeared above his head and hygiene to his right. The thoughts always center and display in that fashion.

Suggestions
If anyone has suggestions for interesting scenarios, triggers, or any ideas don't hesistate.

I do realize I can use a better map editor but currently don't feel the need to, staredits just so nostalgic.

Made with the Map Production template.[/quote]

Updates
I've completed the basic Life Necessities, it was a llittle harder then I thought but I'm glad its over. Basically the buildings you walk up to play the role as Refridgerators, beds, showers or what have you.
None of the units actually have names because of a zombie scenario I play on adding after the sandbox is done. That being said the player still recognizes what a frigde is through text. The hardest part about this was triggering so that stealing and gaining renegade points was still an option. So yeah you can now die from starvation, collapse on the floor for a snooze vulnerable to anyone that wants to kill you, or my favorite yet be a dirty stinky player that doesn't wash so that you become 100% susceptible to diseases.

Life of a Civ, anyone? That game was cool...

This one can be cooler!

I always hated life of a civ because there were usually no conflict between the players :\ ... If you can create some sort of goal that the citizens have to compete for, that'd make this game twice as fun. There needs to be conflict so that players would want to remake ur game (unless you're not shooting for popularity)

The ultimate failure of Sandbox games are that ... we're doing this under SC limitations... and that's that... It'll be really hard for this to be really good, unless you've carefully planned everything so that people can "mess" with everything :P.

Just here for the pie

Really the only thing I liked about Life Of A Civilian was that each job was unique and almost like a mini-game as well as the fact that you could be different classes of characters (Male or female, child, adult, etc.) that could perform different things. In my opinion if this is to succeed you'll need some degree of character customization, although judging by the first post I assume there is some. I'm looking forward to it.

Vrael shouted: Idk, I was looking more for a dehumidifer company which maybe stands out as a beacon of relief amidst damp and unpredictable climates of bustling metropolises. Not sure Amazon qualifies
sounds like moisture control is often a pressing concern in your city

Vrael -- Maybe here on the StarEdit Network I could look through the Forums for some Introductions to people who care about the Topics of Dehumidifiers and Carpet Cleaning?
