Hi i've been working on a map for a few months now and i decided to change the terrain and add a little design and such to each lvl to make it more interesting after seeing the terrain section in the forums, unfortunetly now the damn thing seems to not respond after i save, sometimes it just freezes and other times it crashes my pc. please any advice/tips or do i just delete everything i added?

Judging by the size of your map, I'm guessing your backup files are massive. If they are it can cause problems, the best solution is to just delete them. I've had back up files in the neighborhood of a few gigs and saving crashes were the symptom.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

It's the file that says something about backup in your scmdraft directory.

Make sure you're using the latest SCMDraft (found in the final call for scmdraft thread stickied in the mapping tools forum). Version number means nothing anymore.

Like rockz said, there should be a couple files in your scmdraft directory with "backup" somewhere in their name. Delete them.

It isn't a bad thing. Scmdraft will keep increasing the denominator of maximum strings as you increase your string count. Essentially, you don't have to worry about string count but you do have to worry about String % used.

In theory yes, but in practice there's been quite a few people who got their map corrupted due to being over 1024 strings. Others have been completely fine though. So go over it at your own risk. And if you do, be sure to make regular manual backups just in case your backupdb is getting overly huge again and freaks out.

To remove strings remove comments, dc names and switch names. For comments you can group them together.
For example when I have a dc counter consisting of 2 triggers: Counter and Reset I give them both the same comment:
Code
xyz sytem:
- Counter
- Reset

Also you can group in game messages.
Instead of having a string for each unit "You killed a ling", "You killed a marine, etc. just say "You killed a unit". But since this affects the actual map I'd recommend taking this step last.
