I was thinking about what long-term map-making project i should start next, and suddenly i had this idea: a multi-player UMS campaign! You will be able to play any part that you want in the campaign, while a computer-based trigger-script will be run for any computers! That way you can play it alone, or with a friend!

The time: A few decades before brood war, and im unsure about its relativity to the original. about the time Raynor was 5.
The place: Earth.
The mood: Peaceful, bright future for Earth with new technologies.
The plot: Suddenly, they come in contact with the Zerg, who immediately attack Earth. You play key battles spread over the planet, ranging from the snow-plains of Russia to the dunes of the Sahara. Eventually, you will lose Earth.
The forces: The UEA-United Earth Armies (child-form of the UED, Terran), The Underground Druglord Triad (Lead by Raynor's father, Terran), Grindor the Cerebrate (the attacking zerg armies, Zerg), the PEG-Protoss Expansion Guild (a group of Protoss looking to expand the planets that the protoss command, Protoss).

Any more ideas? Some details:
-Every mission will have 3 playable slots.
-Possibly some player-made AI Scripts will be put in to use.
-A team of map-makers might be fun to do this, i would be willing to lead the Overall and Mission-Based Storyline part of it.

Ehh, sounds very nice, but you forgot the lameness of B.Net'ers (Melee, Melee, Strip Defence, Melee, Melee, Melee, 7vs1 Comp stomp, Melee, Melee, Micro training, Melee, Melee.).

Edit: But I would LOVE to create Russia/the Baltics.

I'm pretty sure SC2 will support UMS that automatically segue to the next map if there is one.

That sounds better than most maps I've thought up. If I could, I would like to be part of the team. I really haven't done much on the editor but I know how things work :D I could show you a map that I've been working on if your interested.

i would love an example of your work! are you interested in triggering, terrain, ideas, or just everything in general?

Sounds like an "rpg" that starcraft already has. What will make it different?

Sauceover is right. I dont know how you will do this as a chain. Chain maps can only be played on single player. B-net doesnt support it so that will put a damper on your idea... because you want desert/snow and those two terrians wont beable to get mixed... so gl on trying to figure it out

well, it wont be largely distributed. it is simply an idea. i will have each mission be an individual map, then they will just have to host the next one.

Oh... then that is going to be a stupid thing when it comes to distributing... unless it is only 2 or 3 maps becuase even 3 can sometimes in the long run be hard to come by.

its not for distribution! it is for the fun of creation, the joy of completion, and the happiness of teamwork! if you map-make for the glory and not because you like it, then you cannot call yourself a map-maker!

Sorry I didn't answer earlier, problems with my internet :flamer: I'm interested in everything in general. I will put my map up later since it's about 90% done.

I had an idea for a 2 player campaign. I just never found the time/motivation to go anywhere with it. =\

The only problem is that nobody joins co-op campaigns. I hosted mine and nobody joined :( :( :(

I wished that Blizzard had made a "Team" UMS setting so that my friends and I could share forces and manage multiple heros or different bases in UMS maps. I would settle for a decent 2-player co-op campaign, if there were enough good ones out there.

2 years ago I started making a thing like this. I created 3 maps of 11, and they were all playable for 3 players. The first one was more of a movie - introduction, the other was a survival map(you were left on your own on an unknown planet), and the other took place with you beeing captured by the crew of a battle cruiser and were supposed to escape alive with your mates.

Just here for the pie

Im kinda making a kind of campaign, but it has nothing to do with the starcraft storyline. It's called Frosthell, and the storyline is amazing. It'll consist of I think 4 maps. An Open RPG, a 'mission' map, an assault map, and another Open RPGish thing. Kinda like the one two posts above me in the fact that theres different sides, like the Frostmarines, Alpha Dogs, and the Frostgineers. (good guys), the Dwell (bad guys.)
