Okay, so I just recently discovered RDC. I can get it to work on my network, but there really is no point unless you can access it from somewhere else right??? So, I setup IIS on both computers, and the "http://localhost/ test works, but when I try to connect to my other comp from IE it says:

Go here because Tripod is retarded

Help me?

I'm pretty sure XP just has Remote Desktop Assistance, which is different.

The simplest way would be to forward port 3389, if you are connected to the internet through a router (which you likely are, since you implied you have multiple computers). I don't know if I'd recommend directly forwarding port 3389, though, as remote desktop may or may not be a secure protocol. If you are willing to take that risk, this will most likely be the easiest way to get it working if you need/want to be able to connect to it from any computer.

An alternative would be to tunnel it through some other protocol, like SSH or some kind of VPN software (like Hamachi, for example). If you will always be connecting from a certain computer, like a laptop computer you own, for example, Hamachi would probably be the way to go, since it would be the easiest way to get it working (no port forwarding, no dynamic DNS needed if you have a dynamic IP address) and it would keep it more secure. Connecting from a computer you own and control is of course the safest way, since you never know if someone has installed a key logger, etc. on a public computer you are using.

And a side note about VNC; it was never designed to be used over the internet, so it is often at least somewhat slower and it is definitely less secure (no password encryption or encryption of any data at all, limited supported password length, and probably other things I've heard of that I can't recall at the moment).
