Putting the SC CD into my drive (Macbook Pro), it gives me this.

So, anything I can do about this?

None.

Easily, you can simply sell your mac and buy a PC. Preferably, dualboot linux and windows.

If you are a normal mac user, you can simply check if you have permissions to read and write on the disk.

There we go!
So, the answer is basically not unless I buy something else.

Wrong

The only copies that have been sold within the past 9 years have been hybrid copies, and hybrid copies were available before that.

Try these:
1. Running the program from the admin account
2. Dling the OSX installer version from here: http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/patches/Mac/StarCraft_OS_X_Installer.dmg install the game,
and then running with Rosetta in PPC compatibility mode (right-click?)
3. Go to disk utility, select the OSX partition, and press "repair disk permissions". This will fix any glitches that could be screwing up usage permisions of the app. Don't click verify, it's the same thing but it just tells you there are problems rather than fixing them.

You don't need to buy anything else. Don't trust the misinformed. Good luck (though I doubt you need it).

Alright, did that. Whenever I open it up, it gives me a couple options for startup (using low memory art, switching monitors etc.). No matter what I choose, it dies immediately. I checked the activity monitor, and it seems to go away as soon as I click OK. :dontgetit:
I ran the permissions repair. This laptop is brand new by the way.
Also, I think Rosetta is used whenever needed, as I can't find an option for it.

did you install both broodwar and sc, and do you have the Broodwar cd in your drive?

EDIT:

after doing some research, i have found this: someone with the same problem who contacted blizzard

We've received a handful of reports from users with the newest (2-26-08) revision of the MacBook Pros and an inability to start up Diablo 2 and StarCraft.

The StarCraft Startup Options and the Diablo 2 Options screens will appear, but after pressing Ok, the games close and do not load.

Currently, we are still investigating this issue and I'll provide updates here once more information is received. Until then, please use this thread to report your system information if you are experiencing this issue.

Please post the following information from your System Profile (Go > Utilities > System Profiler):

Hardware (remove the Serial Number line)
Graphics/Displays
Software (remove the Computer Name and User Name lines)

apple seems to have falling standards as of late, and it is starting to piss me off. For my next comp, i might have to move to the dark side of computing, with a windows/linux pc.

Thanks a bunch, it's too bad really. Hopefully this will get fixed up soon.

Everybody else, thanks for nothing. It's really not cool to act like you know what you're talking about when you don't. If you're not sure, just say so, don't imply that you are. If you have no idea, don't bother posting. Please.

If you are referring to the number of people who gave me zero or negative help in this topic, it's 3 and counting.

Syphon gave responded after it was all over, so it's actually one person. ToA was the only one who said anything that was wrong. Anonymous just gave an opinionated response that wasn't any help, which, didn't do anything imply he knew what he didn't.
