Thanks to Google for giving me this information:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_c5K7Jdw9EEverybody, be prepared to turn off your lights at 8 PM for one hour. We'll be going through one wild hour night.
Even if you don't believe this, just do it anyways.
None.
Will it remove global warming entirely?
Methinks it won't do anything. The power companiies won't shut down over that hour, the electricity just won't get used, wasted in fact.
So in fact, this whole idea is full of s**t
None.
Tell that to 2100 corporations and 2.2 million people... if it doesn't do anything, they wouldn't do this anyways.
None.
1 hour = what exactly? a little extra coal?
None.
Oh sure, McDonalds will do that.
None.
It's still just hurting the environment by wasting power.
however the power companies will have a good hour. They'll be able to leave blackouts black, with an excuse xD
None.
Haha, I missed it while playing Half-Life 2. But we had intermittent blackouts over a few days recently, and had maybe twelve hours total without power, so there.
None.
Yea, better play HL2 rather then some hippy activity.
None.
Damn striaght *loads crossbow and gets to owning combine*
None.
'Tis not gonna happen here until one hour and 7 minutes. We're just gonna turn off the lights, anyway; I still get to play Mafia: City of Lost Heaven! *cocks gun and aims*
None.
it should be 24 hours imo ;D but then that would ruin alot of things in the world... Like an old lady whos on life support.
None.
They don't turn the power off in hospitals.
Or government facilities. Especially Military bases.
These people are hippies, but at least they aren't too stupid.
None.
Well.
My lights aren't on most of the time anyways.
So, I'll say I "contributed!" ;P
None.
Oh man this is bad, there are going to be tons of criminals out!
They need a day for people to recognize conservation of energy? Pathetic.
None.
Just here for the activity... well not really
I live in an apartment, so people will just think we're away
.

"Oh, I see it"
This will most likely fail as bad as the "don't buy gas" day last year.
None.
1 hour = what exactly? a little extra coal?
24000000 J /kg of coal * 35% efficiency (which is good for coal) = 7200000 J/kg burned
40 watt bulb = 40 joules/sec = 1261440000 J/year = 175.2 kg coal per year = 386.25 lbs of coal a year for one 40W light bulb.
386.25 - 370.156 = 16 lbs saved by turning off one light for an hour a day.
None.
I think this is less about the energy save and more about the idea of energy saving.
None.
