Let me show you how to hump without making love.

I think it sounds amazing and I've been thinking of trying it out, except that I have a low data limit on this plan. 100 MB lol.

It sounds like an AR game and I'm all for it.

Yeah, I have learned that it is an Altered Reality game and it sounds very interesting. I am not sure how you play still, but I am impressed with how much this game has exploded.
Augmented Reality is the correct term.

Honestly, this is just the first step into what many people have known is going to be the future. In 20 years, the world is going to have an overlay.

None.

Find Me On Discord (Brood War UMS Community & Staredit Network)

More like hundreds of overlays which you can pick and choose from.

This is entertainment atm. Can anyone think of more practical uses?

I can imagine paramedics using anatomical AR as assistance tools.

meh, my wife downloaded it, then asked me to play it, lots of nostalgia, but in the end its not what I used to play back in RBY, I am pretty busy so I don't play it that much. its ok and fun when you got spare time, but I wouldn't waste too much time into it.

its just not the same as the classics :( if anything it made me wish i was playing RBY, or whatever they did making the old ones new.. didn't they do that one?

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

It's not supposed to be an augmented version of the classics. It's supposed to be a novelty getting you interested by abusing a tried and true concept. And to add a layer of seriousness, which is actually just an excuse for those playing to continue to do so, they added (cultural) landmarks on the "game map" that are could teach you of your surroundings.

In the end there's little gameplay value, except the pitiful arena part. (which they promise to improve) It's just enough to distract you from the fact that it all is just a big ploy to gather your personal data, (you basically send EVERYTHING to the app creator) photo + GPS connections and whatever else they can gather.

Yes, Germans are fun. :P

People will use it in every day life, not just in a professional setting. It allows for people to put digital information out on top the real world or even replace what we see in the world.

Maybe you don't like cloudy weather, so you use AR to replace the entire sky with a different skyline. Maybe you want to know the temperature or when the sun will set/rise, so you take a look at the sky. It would give you a full weather report and status of the sun/moon.

Let's say you arrive at a train station and when you look at the railways, you can see when the next train is stopping and where it's bound for. Or maybe you think the train that is coming by might be yours, so you look at it in the distance. It tells you if it is.

Maybe you are having trouble with something in your house, maybe your car or some plumbing in the house. Connect with someone that can help walk you through it and they can actually paint onto your vision with directions in 2.5 (relatively easy). Shopping? You can see the price of something and what that store's competitors are pricing it as. Then when you add it into your cart, you can see what your current total is before you even get to the register.

These are things that are easily within our grasp right now with cellphone cameras, but with concepts like Google Glass, we may very well have a future where the greater population lives within augmented reality.

Now on the scary side of things, when we become reliant on this kind of technology, someone could literally hack your vision to make you see, or not see, anything they like.

Executor

I've heard of another Augmented Reality MMO game called Ingress. This was very recently ago (like 40 mins ago) and I haven't much details, but it is supposed to be better than Pokemon Go. I am not exactly sure how it's better, but I guess anything's possible at this point.

Ingress is Pokemon Go's predecessor. It's by the same company. In fact, Pokéstops (and I believe gyms) in Pokémon Go are in the same exact location and use the same photos as the portals in Ingress. In essence, Ingress was a test run for Pokémon Go that was used for crowdsourcing. It's a lot more complex in both depth and breadth, it just doesn't have Pokémon in it.

That's part of the reason entire areas lack pokestops or gyms - if no one in your neighborhood played, no locations were submitted to be portals (or whateve rit is Ingress used).

I played Ingress briefly, and I'm now mildly interested in Pokemon Go due to it using the same infrastructure.

I'm lucky enough to have two pokestops pretty much outside my front door, and the nearest gym is just up the street. It's London though, so it's always going to be densely packed with stuff.
