SEN is what represents Map editing (Other than Modding)
and as members of SEN what do you expect for the SC II Campaign Editor to include?
Hmm.
I expect them to take the WC3 editor, improve upon it as much as possible, and not do anything stupid to it.

An enhanced version of the WCIII editor, but for Starcraft.

That would totally kick ass because you can do anything with the WCIII editor.

I think much more user friendly, and not so intimidating as the WC3 editor would benefit the new editor a lot.

/agree... the Warcraft 3 editor like requires you to know everything about it before even using it and making a map just to have a bit of fun with on that thing takes like forever...

Blizzard stated the editor would give you all of the capabilities of the producers, meaning it might have a modeling engine built into it, creating new abilities and researches to get those abilities, etc. Which is exactly what I want.

....Not really.

I've used the Warcraft III editor on about three different occasions.

If you know how to program, the editor is much much easier (imho).. At least it was for me.

I almost was done with a badass Warcraft III map based on my Novels before my computer went out... :( I learned pretty much all I needed to know, the first and second time I used the program.. The third time I used it, I already knew everything.

Exactly. The SC editor is a piece of shit made for noobs. What's funny is the noobs still can't make good maps with it.

Just here for the pie

- Unit Copying [ You can have two marines, but with different stats and names, and not the hero and normal marine either. ]
- No limits like locations, strings, etc.
- Better AI.

Thats basically it, but I didn't really think up much.

Oh yeah, also, if you can do things like change units graphics, I think that will be totally abused xD.

Well if it has at least the same functionality of the WC3 editor, it'll have all of that and more.

Haha, well you could say it that way if you want to be a prick about it, lol

My expectations is that In starcraft II map editor that you can terrain mix. Like say the map is in jungle terrain and what if you could add something from the Ice terrain into it. Like make trees have frost or have some part of the water boiled to a lava point.

Blizzard stated in the latest map-maker Q&A that you can mix tilesets, and better than you could in WC3.
Also a reminder that you should probably post on the official bnet forums and make feature requests/keep editor threads bumped so they get noticed, normally there aren't a lot of mappers to post in them and keep them bumped, and they just end up dead, which is a sad thing.

since sc2 is gonna be 3d, does that mean that the locations are gonna be cubes, lulz

Relatively ancient and inactive

The graphics are 3D, not the gameplay, so no, regular flat locations.

Since it will already have everything that WC3 has, i'd like to see new things. Instead of having to copy a unit or ability and editing it to be a different unit, i'd rather be able to start fresh. All the fields are set to zero/null. For abilities i want to be able to add the "data" field to an ability instead of having to find a base ability and editing it.

Triggers are really nice and easy to use in warcraft3. I just want to be able to use all the triggers in the GUI instead of having to use JASS, which was already confirmed a while ago.

do you mean the game engine runs as 2d, but the units are 3d models with pics taken of them?

Quote
I can see why this wouldn't be possible depending on how they programed it, but it would be nice.

you would just replace the textures for the terrain, so long as its full 3d.

i hope for ability to make your own units, with custom models, animations, sounds, spells, everything basically customizable, scripting language as well as normal trigs, customizable artwork, like for around the screen(HUD)etc.

Red classic.

"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."

Being able to debug/play the map IN the editor would be secks. With different type of features like going through the map (fast forward), to a specific trigger, blah blah blah etc.

None.

Jan 20 2008, 9:37 pm candle12345 Post #79

I doubt that would happen, it's a little bit too far to do that.
For "fast forward" just place the required units or give the player the required switch at map start to test it out. Works for me every time :)

An effects system would be cool, [Being able to spawn explosions and unit deaths etc.]
Maybe the ability to place physics objects that can be shot around. [Soccer!]
I know they're adding goons in the editor. But I think that the wraith and Goliath deserve that spot.
JUST BECAUSE THE VIKING REPLACES THEM DOESN'T MEAN THEY DON'T RULE!
Custom air unit behaviours? Like air units that move like a plane, banking to turn, not stopping to fire [See C&C games] And VTOL Units? [Using a viking like ability, without the animation]
Ability handouts [giving my marines snipe etc.]
Being able to entirely remove a [Hey, I just noticed, that should be "an"...] units attack [I think the WCIII editor could do this, I can't remember...]
Projectile modification? [Making rockets act different]

It looks like a lot, but that stuff is fairly simple for blizzard to code.

Jan 21 2008, 3:12 am Joshgt2 Post #80

If only they would listen to all of this... But I really thought about making a Transformers kind of map if we would have the ability to make our own units and what not... sick sick sick!
