If he gives a payment, state in some casual way that it better not be the same rate given to Sandra since you will have more experience. He'll have to response with something.

"We're looking for an archaeologist, Tom. Not a comedian."

"Very well. Apart from not being killed, you will find yourself significantly wealthier. We fund our activities out here by, as you have probably figured out, selling artefacts on the private market. It's not entirely legal but we have connections in various port and customs authorities. As the position of archaeologist is so important to us you will get a decent cut of the profits, but I will not talk figures now."

"Anything else? What about the other volunteers?"
"You mean Sandra, Jess, Ryan and George? Well George already works for us, as you know. Not the hardiest of souls but I'm sure we can find a position for him in the company. Sandra will hopefully be joining us as an assistant doctor - even a company such as ours has need of medical personnel - apart from myself of course, but I have numerous other duties. I don't see why you should care about Jess and Ryan. They're not working for us, if that's what you're asking. We do need them but beyond that I'm not at liberty to say."

"Ok, well I will accept so long as you're not going to make me do any weird rituals."

You nod. Sean stands up and offers his hand again. You reach out and take it.

As Sean pulls you up, something strange happens. Your thoughts start to get foggy and unclear and you find it hard to concentrate. You have to think intensely before slurring "Ok, I'll join you". Something isn't right. Half-formed thoughts and images which you're not quite sure are your own enter and leave your mind. You see a Mesoamerican building in the middle of a jungle. The image zooms through the entrance and ends up in the room with the dead man you saw earlier, only this time he's alive. You imagine yourself raising a dagger made of obsidian and carving a great hole in his chest.

This isn't right. Sean is trying to do something to you.
