Random Model Loads

I'm creating buildings for a game I'm making (about 200 total), so I need to use quite a bit of models. There are these 4 that would fit perfectly in with my map (4 different biodomes). The issue is that each of them load a random model when they are put down (one has a forest, one blue energy, one is just a plain dome). I tried deleting all but 1 UI- Wireframe .dds file, but it didn't do anything. They still were just randomly generating a model upon placement.

There were also several buildings (some items and units turned into structures) that always load facing in a random direction. I need them to only face 1 direction though.

If anyone knows about either of these issues, please respond! Thanks.

I am not sure I understand your problems, but here's my take:
Select your Domes and press " , " or " . " (comma and dot). If it doesn't work, click it, press enter, and set manually a "Variation #".

For the unit-buildings, you can select them, press enter and decide of the direction they are facing, or you can select them one per one and "Ctrl + Left click" the position you want them to face.
You can also go in the Data Editor, find that value about the "Random Facing Point" (that's not its real name :/) and set it to I-dunno-what-value-will-work.

If I did solve your problems, it means this thread was meant to go under SC2 Terrain. :P
Anyways, this might help you: http://www.staredit.net/topic/11588/

If you need a separate building for each model then create a new model (actor and unit will be needed as well) in the data editor for each model.

Try putting down "colonist biodome" or "colonist biodome (under construction)" a few times in the editor. I think you already know what I mean, but I didn't describe my issue in detail enough. Even though I can cycle through the models and find the one that is fitting and put it down, the issue is that the strucutres in my game are going to be placed down by the players of the game. So when they begin building the (lets say for example) building I set as "Tier 1 biodome", every player should be placing down the same model for that building. But, If by default the building loads a random model on placement, then that creates an issue.

The reason I put this in data editing is because of the option that I thought would impact that in the data editor. I can't open my editor right now (can't connect to battle.net for some reason) but I believe under the actor for the biodome (and other such buildings/doddads that load random models on placement) there is something called "UI - Wireframe variations". In that there are several ".dds" files that represent each option for the random models that the building will call upon on creation. I thought if I deleted all but one of the .dds files in here, it would only load the one model that I left, but that didn't work.

To the new post above:
The models by default are just the name of the building. So I can't select one model from the other.

I haven't made builders who can actually place down these structures that I made, so I don't know if they are going to be of a random model during gameplay if I delete all but 1 of the "UI - Wireframe Variations". Maybe it only still loads randoms in the editor. I'll check in when I get to that point.

(sorry for double post, but I wanted this to stand out from the one before)

The easiest way to do this is to make your own units using those models. The wireframe variations are only for setting a different wireframe in the ui per variations (the wireframe model you see at the bottom of the screen when you select a unit). I'll write up a wiki article on how to do this later when I have the time.

All my buildings/units are ones I created (by means of duplication). The model type for the biodome (in this case) is just "Biodome" Even when the models are changed, the model is still just biodome. I don't see like a biodome1 when its one model and bioedome2 when its another or w/e. I just need to know which section in the data editor controls the command that makes the model change randomly.

There are a couple things that seem to control this. One is the variation count under the model, the other is that the model is not set to a specific model but maybe the folder which contains the 5 models that are used. Changing both of these will work.

Finally! I've been bashing my head against this for days. Thank you!

TheHappy115 -- Yea, thats the issue. Thanks. It would also explain why my deleted map couldn't get updated. Updated version reduced collision on units (only thing added) since was dodging game (players collide with each other)

Ultraviolet -- If so, I'd just focus on getting them on scmscx.com and then you can link to that in the showcase thread for your maps

Ultraviolet -- I can't upload my EUD maps, I think the DLDB has some issue with handling them. Are you trying to upload EUD maps?

TheHappy115 -- Its been awhile but ever since I requested one of the Maps I posted to be deleted since I couldn't delete it myself (or update it), I haven't been able to upload any more maps. Any reason for that?
