Error code 14

So there I was, looking at my tray when I notice Daemon tools lite or and older version (two different versions of daemon tools) were not there. So I assumed I must've closed those programs or something. Just to double check I head over to my computer and I had 4 CD drives instead of my usual 2. These 2 extra ones were virtual drives created by Daemon tools for when I run .ISO files. I figure that their must be some sort of... problem between Daemon tools or something for them to not be running but their virtual drives to still exist so I tried to start up daemon tools from the short cut but I get the error - Internal setup error. Error code 14. Contact support.

Wat? I go ahead and uninstall both of them with no problem and I head over to my install folder where I keep all of my installs, I get ready to reinstall Daemon tools lite and I get the same error again. A friend of my told me I should reboot.

I reboot

Error pops up again.

Google.

Something about the registry still existing from daemon tools and that I should go ahead and delete thing in my windows folder? I felt like I should leave something like that as a back up plan with a second opinion (sen). but in general it seems that "error code 14" translate into "Reboot the computer and everything should be fine" so I did another reboot just in case and nothing. I really don't want to go messing with windows folders or using regedit because google results suggest I should.

Anyone know whats up?

also bonus mode: I can't open my second drive and I figure since we are on the subject of drives I'd figure I'd point it out. My top drive used to have the same problem but after 10 minutes of spamming the open button it finally opened. Doesn't seem to work for my second CD drive. (Tried the hole in front of the CD drive. Does nothing. Opened up the case to make sure everything is connected. It is.)

My friend gave me an ISO file that I really want to use so in the meantime I'm looking into another program that does the same as daemon tools but I'd prefer to continue using what I have been using for so long. Halp.

Download regcleaner and get rid of the daemon tools stuff. Possibly run ccleaner.

You can't recover anything from an already uninstalled program. Delete those files. You can't use Daemon Tools right now, so you can't mess it up any more than you already have.

Quit being afraid of the registry and your "hidden files". the registry doesn't have an undo or anything, but you can back it up easily. I frequently use it to add on context menu items and change thumbnail size/quality.

When icons disappear from the system tray (at least in XP) it's due to a bug in windows. Log out then log back in and they should be back. It has to do with the welcome screen and trying to log in before the system tray can completely load up. There's a timeout set in the registry which you can change, but it's easier to just log out/log in or update to 7.

Alcohol 52% is free.
Alcohol 120% isn't, but supports burning/ripping. (I have 8 drives, supports up to 32). Rips into Media Descriptor image files (emulates protection), ISO, and cue/bin.
PowerISO isn't free, but supports direct access archive, which is a compressed ISO if you're short on space. It's a joke format. Also edits ISOs
Virtual CD Rom Control Panel is free and less than 1 MB. They really should have included it by default in windows. I haven't messed around with it enough to get it to mount on boot.

I use alcohol 120%. It's got a decent interface, though no system tray support. You really don't need it when you have 4 drives.

It's old. It might have coke spilled in it. Just clean it as best you can.

The manual eject always works unless your drive is mechanically broken. However it's sometimes hard to find the right spot to push. You need a long needle (2 inches would be good) and poke around until you find a "plate" of some kind that gently resists your pushing. Then push with moderate force and the tray slides open for about half an inch, so you can grab it and open it completely.

You shouldn't have used 2 versions of Daemon Tools the same time. They are not just programs, but they add drivers to your system and those can conflict for different versions.

Backup the registry, backup the files you're planning to delete, then restart, then reinstall DT, then reboot and hope for the best.

Theirs a reason for using two different versions. The newer versions didn't work with another program related with .iso files so I had to use an old one. Although the old one was really... inefficient and it was a chore to do certain things so I decided to have them both running. Didn't really think something bad would happen.

Well I feel like a derp. What I was using was almost an inch long. I thought it was more of a "reset" button than something manual. Weirdly enough I can't find anything thats 2 inches long and small enough to fit in my household...

I would but... I have no clue about anything related to registries so I have no clue which would pertain to daemon tools...

Never really thought about that. I have poured things on my tower mutliple times. Truthfully I don't understand how my computer still works with the punishment I've given it, much less why the bottom drive would go out while the top one didn't (atm). Most of my spills are in the front part too where the drives are too :awesome:

Anyways I guess it isn't much of a problem right now since I haven't (truly) tried the manual eject button and Magic iso is working out for me. Truthfully I never use the second drive as I never burn my back up( :shifty: ) .iso on discs since I don't have discs. Hardly use discs now that I think of it. Maybe I should pull that drive out and add some LED lights for lulz.

Would this then be....considered solved? :S

Paperclip.
Make sure you at least try alcohol 52%.
