Yo,

Well, I wanted to make this map for topvbottom, so i started with staredit, but then started editing with scmdraft2. I got the map done, and i went to put it thru a test drive, and when i click start (for the map) the screen goes black and then it says starcraft need to close. I made sure all sprites and mods are gone and it still has the problem. Help?

Just here for the pie

I don't have much experience with matters like this because I solely use SCMDraft, but you shouldn't go from editor to editor. I'd recommend copying the terrain and pasting it onto a new map. It may take a few tries to get it right, but it will also possibly fix your dilemma.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

which version of scmdraft did you use?
One of the beta versions posted on this forum or the original 0.8.0 or another version?

Check the unit placement. Are there units that touch the borders of the map?

Did you add triggers to the map?

alright, i tried lil-inferno's advice, nothing, i tried both of Ahli's advice. Nothing. Btw, i use scmdraft2 beta (0.8.0)

If you post the map we can probably fix it for you.

Did you use a strange file name? Avoid ' - ² and the like. Same goes for force names.

And just for the record, going from standard staredit to any editor is fine. Just switching from an advanced editor to another can cause problems.

map dimensions: 128x164

164 is not valid (not a standard size) and can cause your crash.

edit:
btw, I didn't post an advice. I only posted questions that you didn't answer.

sorry, i guess advice wasnt the right word for it. On the other note, Ahli, changing my dimensions from 164 to 192 has made it work. Thank you.
CASE CLOSED!

Alright, the map is all taken care of, but now there's a problem with the computers. All they will focus on is getting minerals, build one attack building (barracks, gateway, spawning pool) then stack up on minerals to do nothing with them. Could this be the result of resizing the map and every thing became a rectangular(instead of isometrical) structure?

Just here for the pie

Certain terrain tends to screw up the computer AI. I'd change it to isometric.

ok, well, thanks, it is kind of a pain because EVERY terrain is tile indexed, so now isometric becomes its on tile becoming a BIG problem. bu thanks anyway.

Also make sure the ai, the player's race and if applicable their buildings are the same race.
Also using randomized start locations screws up player slots, so for the UMS version you'd have to disable that and do the randomization via triggers.

ok, ive made all the terrain isometrical, it hasnt done anything. This map is not a UMS map either. Ive made sure everything is good. heres the (new) map. Can u point out anything that might be a problem?

ScmDraft sometimes likes to screw up maps. There is nothing wrong with it, but for some reason the computer will do almost nothing.
We had that problem a few weeks ago.
Just remake the map and copy over the terrain. This will make the terrain rectangular again, but personally I doubt that this will be a problem if it's nothing special.
