How about Recharge Station?

Naw, recharge is too borderline "Machinery" Sounding IMO, it's important that the player can establish a clear difference from the Character's human mortality - and the essence of the Machine that has been combined with him. Recharge seems like it would effect the machine part of him, but the 'Healing Shrine' as it's called now is strictly tied with his Human aspects ONLY.

On another note, I've finished planning most of the abilities that will be available to you while you play. There are a total of 9 Active abilities, 9 Combo Abilities, and 8 Passive Abilities. You'll have to unlock most of the abilities to use them though, most of them require certain weapons to be upgraded to a certain overheat capacity, and also have prerequisite abilities involved. (For example, you can't learn Level 3 combo abilities if you never unlocked Level 3 Active Abilities first.)

I'm unsure as to whether or not it will be made possible to unlock all abilities in a single run-through of the game.

Also, I've began further progress on the Overheat Indication / Weapon cooldown systems. I haven't tested them yet, but they seem to be coming along nicely.

🤙🏾

If you use VHP you could easily have both a surgery station for your human part and a recharging station for your robotic part, each would heal you halfway and you would need both for full HP.

OHHHHH

no no guys. I must not have explained it right, but the mechanical part of you does not have HP. It has an overheating capacity that determines how much you can use your abilities before it will overheat and shut down on you. There is not findable object that changes the current overheated %, there is only a findable object that will restore you HP. The hero only has HP for his human part.

So you need a name for something that only heals his human counterpart?

Yes, something that represents replenishment of human mortality, that might be found in a demented robot's prison/lair/experimental facility.

On a side note, I'm currently testing the Overheating / Cooldown triggers, and they're working quite well. I'll treat you guys to a Screenshot of the Cooldown meter in action here in a few minutes.

why not have it simply be a medicine cabinet?
they'll be rare and scattered throughout the map.
you have to go there, and there will be medikits or whatever the healing thing is called.
and theres a set limit, 0-4 inside per cabinet.
you're allowed to carry one with you.
kinda l4d-ish meh

I honestly don't think you're going to find something that heals you in a place that's meant to kill you
I was sorta thinking of a cryogenic sleep chamber since it sounds kind of futuristic and it just popped up in my mind.
Might have to look up what it actually does though.

Aug 20 2009, 5:37 am Norm Post #31

Perhaps,

@Darksnow, I'm not incorporating any Med kits/potions into the map, because the use of a "Healing Shrine" is strategic, because these are the only times you will be able to heal yourself (Except at the end of chapters Automatically.) It's a system that's like, If you approach / activate this object, you get healed. End of story.

@Xero, It's not really a place meant to kill you, when you play the game you find out that the thing controlling you has higher expectations from you than to simply die. Cryogenic sleep chamber? Might work, but I don't want people to think they can just take a nap in the middle of the action. It's a fast paced game, so it also needs to be something that you activate, and boom keep going on your way. I dunno, what's everyone else' opinions on "Healing Shrine?"

Aug 20 2009, 6:01 am darksnow Post #32

well if it can only be a 1 stop heal, you can still use the medicine cabinet.
and having skill in the game takes on whole new meaning since theres limited number of times you can heal

Yeah, I planned to deviate this a long way from the standard Hack n Slash RPG. The first thing I did was put in a very low amount of HP so that people would have to Micro quite a bit for one, and also management of the Healing Shrines is vital because if you use one too early, you might find yourself stuck with no way to survive.

I'm also preventing over-use of abilities with this system that will take away your abilities for a short time if you overheat your weapon. I added a screenshot to the opening post that demonstrates the Overheating meter in effect.

the meter looks ok i guess, your text-art could use a little work ^^

but wheres the sample map you promised us?

i really like the idea of this game though, micro intensive and actually requires skill, unlike those other rpgs, where you go out, kill, run back and heal, repeat

Haha, Don't worry, I've finished most maps that I have ever started. Unfortunately, I'm tired now so I'm going to sleep, but I don't have work or anything tomorrow, so I can have time for some more progress on this.

@Darksnow. DUDE I said by the end of the week, you'll get your demo, no worries =)

Alrighty, this here is a DEMO that you guys can use to see the direction that this RPG is taking. The Demo runs from the Beginning of Chapter one until about 1/5 through chapter 2. It's not easy, so play carefully. If you manage to get to the end of the Demo, let me know please. Please keep in mind that I have not put in any finishing touches such as possible sound effects and extra detail.

Please Enjoy.

im assuming that since you're using a countdown timer, the map is to be played on fast?
should this be played on multiplayer or can it be played on single player?
