A band can't just be like "I want to play this genre." They need to play what they feel like and what they are good at. Don't be ridiculous. I hope you were completely joking around... but even then.
Completely incorrect. It is the normal thing to do for bands to have a desired Genre/Influence that they wish to sound like.
Except THEY choose it. Not some random kid that tells them what they should aim for. And they choose it based off what they like and what they are good at expressing.
Though I imagine some really terrible bands might just be like 'i want to be this genre' for no particular reason whatsoever? There are plenty of bands out there that aren't willing or able to make their own sound I guess. But still.
