I started workin on a map about a year ago , and it may have been in starforge...idk. but he sent me the map on my new pc and i opened it in scmdraft (.8) and it works fine, but almost every time i click a unit under unit settings or open a new trigger etc, i get a message, it varies a little, but says something along the lines of :
string corruption detected in line ___, file .\CCHK.cpp.
string ID: ___. String contents: NULL
REPORT THIS!
so, i'm reportin it. i can just ignore it and work on the map, but its kinda annoyin and i get the 'something bad happened save a diagnostic file?' a lot and i just wanna kno wats happenin

Get the latest version of SCM Draft
here, since there are actually several versions of 0.8.0 floating around, because the error looks like an issue with a null string, something that was very recently fixed.
None.
Isn't it caused by SCMDraft automatically recycling strings?
None.
If he was working on it in StarForge or another editor
and SCM Draft at the same time, then yes, however, there's no issues going from an editor that doesn't recycle strings to one that does, the problem only occurs in going back.

Use TrigEdit, rather than Classic TrigEdit, and just copy and paste the triggers.

when i copy the triggers and paste them in the new blank map, they dont seem to stick , even if i click save, save as, X, or w.e

Click the Debug checkmark, that's how you save.

I hear a packed backup database can cause the "Something bad happened" error, try clearing the backup database.
