Zerg World

Players
• 1 verses AI (Free For All)

Map tileset
• Jungle

Map size
• 256x256

Brief Summary

• Four outer aerial foes, four inner land foes. Play it safe on the outer ring, or be in the fight of your life in the center.

Description

For the first time in many years, I am challenged by the standard AI on a map. If you play as one of the outer four players, you can develop pretty much in safety. The challenge is if you start as one of the players in the inner portion of the map. Just when you're getting resources and defenses ready against your four melee opponents, in comes one (or more) of the outer ring aerial opponents, with a landing force or air force.

I was amazed at how challenging this is, even after playing the game for 10 years now. Starcraft's original AI still surprises. Give it a try.

Details

• I use raised jungle as barriers for this map, making an interesting variation over the standard Jungle. Although that limits doodads, I find the raised jungle offers interesting possibilities.

Lol..you are so gonna get criticized by everyone here...

It indeed is very difficult to make melee maps... .. and sometimes you just make them for fun.. not for competition..
if it's for fun, then this map seems fun :P..

If it's for competition.. then EVEN I .. who have NEVER said a THING in this melee thread.. will tell you that Terran will be overpowered due to floating building and tanks.. which can be on the high jungle grounds.

All I can say is that it's horribly unbalanced.

Well, I will say that the AI actually does perform better the worse the map is.

Three posts from people who haven't tried it, hmmm. Okay...

I see what you mean.

The map was designed for 1 human player and 7 computer players, Free For All. That's it. I thought I was pretty clear. Am I misunderstanding this forum section?

In what way?

Simon Cowell plays Starcraft? I thought he was too busy.

Anyone else actually play maps here?

The most obvious factor is is that if it's not symmetrical. It tends to not be balanced. I could post more as you work on improving your map though.

I said ppl'd criticize because there's actually an outline for a "balanced" and "competitive" melee map..

But since this is for 1v7 free for all.... this map'd be fun...
and U know what else? this map'd be cool for Phantom XD XD...

now that's the Construcutive stuff.. now for the criticizing in which ppl probably didn't even bother to bestow on you...
Realize how Terran owns all in your map... i.e. tight fighting spaces = terran win.... tank drops = win.... floatable buildings = ez expo = win. But again.. the map isn't for that.. so i think it's fine :P

Ok now i see what people were talking about when they said Ex is emo to everyone...not just me.

Actually sometimes he is actually quite civil to me, idk why. Anyway i have a question: Is the first race that people should balance terran? Cos i was reading some of the previous topics and most maps are immediately critiqued for how terran will own the map,and less so for other races.

Emo? There's nothing emo about someone making a terribad map and purposely not reading the posted and pinned guide, so that I have to come in here and criticize their willful ignorance.

People seem prone to making tight maps. T loves tight maps. The tighter with more cliffs and tankable entrances like bridges, the more terran has a field day.

The emo stuff isn't the critique which i agree with. It's hard to explain when you're on a cell like me. :D

Anyway AFAIk SEN is elitist in many ways. You make it on here and you are a pro mapmaker. And you are pro too, although others are better. So then some noob comes along and makes a sucky map, and you tell him whats wrong with it. Fine, but then 100 more noobs do the same thing and you get sick of it and start being short and to the point. Still fine! Then you start being a real sad guy to them, you insult them, sometimes dont tell them whats wrong with their map, and tell them that they are crappy noobs who will never make a nice map, and drive them off or start flaming.i havent really said this right but something like that.

Anyway thanks for the tip about maps.

Websites are for computers, not phones. There was a long discussion about this in the site feedback section. :P

Good. General bnet subhumans belong in strip maps and bounds, not here.

No, no, and more no. SEN's melee section is so bad that if it weren't for me and a couple other select individuals, people would be heralding maps like this as totally balanced.

All maps must be symmetrical? I must have missed that from the sticky post on Melee map-making. You are aware that real battles in the real world are not symmetrical? Assuming a Starcraft movie is made, will you walk out of it if the combatants aren't shown fighting on a perfectly symmetrical map?

A really big "huh" on that one, [Vi3t-X]:].

"It tends to not be balanced."

All four outer players have the same precise access to starting resources. All four inner players have the same precise access to starting resources. What on Aiur are you talking about?

"I could post more as you work on improving your map though."

Since you haven't said anything, what would I change?

LOL, thank you! I can see the confusion of some people wanting this to be a Competition map.

There's no other purpose to this map than to see the standard AIs come at you from different directions, at different times. It's a chance discovery that I thought some others might find worth playing. Thanks for getting the intent. :)

I did read the guide. Are you saying there is a separate posting section for single player vs AI maps?

You've got two other sections for "Modding" and "Use Map Settings". You don't have a section for Single Player maps. I'll leave you to your fun (?).
