Just a warning to you guys that a claim for 100 free cdkeys if you answer this question: "What noise does a cat make?" in Clan SK@USEast is fake and they somehow can get you IPBanned on USEast if you say the answer, "meow". I don't know how long exactly yet, but it's been 20 minutes so far and I'm still IPBanned.

Oh well. It's better than the time I asked blizzard tech support what to do with a torrented starcraft .iso file and I got banned for ~3 months on all servers except Asia. :P

None.

That's funny. I got banned from USEast for a month once because I attempted to use stealthbot, and apparently blizzard got real pissed about it.

1) There apparently is no Clan SK on East.
2) You can only get [tricked into being] IPBanned, in a game without /astat flood protection.
3) Talking about what to do with a torrented Starcraft makes you look retarded.

I know that 2) is obviously not true, but believe what you want. My theory is that everyone in Clan SK got IPBanned for some odd reason, because I remember a bot responding some message right after I typed "meow" that would make it seem so. But I don't remember it well enough to try and repeat and Clan SK doesn't exist anymore, so I probably sound crazy. I would have taken a screenshot if I didn't think it was a 5 minute ban.

As for 3) I was bored and that was my intention.

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

2) is true since you only get IPBanned when YOU flood Battle.net. The /astat flood works because your client is tricked into sending that command to Battle.net multiple times via the version verification. Your connection to Battle.net doesn't use a connectionless protocol, so it is impossible for someone to coax your client into sending additional messages to Battle.net. The game version verification is the only case.

Your suspicions are incorrect.

Just here for the activity... well not really

This may sound arbitrary but: Did you have enter/leave notifications?
That's the only way, I can think of, that someone can flood you.

Yeah but I doubt that was the reason.

Then what do you think explains me being IPBanned on east for more than a good 8-9 hours? I'm certain I didn't intentionally spam anything to flood, so flooding is obviously not the reason, and I was in a channel not a game. Wouldn't IPBans from floods only be for about 5 minutes?

Not to mention I'm certain Blizzard reps can IPBan you for reasons other than flooding, so it's wrong to say you can only get IPBanned by flooding. Want proof? Go to Blizzard Tech Support and do what I did.

So you acknowledge that the SK bot had nothing to do with it. That was my point anyway.

@l)ark_ssj9kevin: Enter/Leave notifications are client side.

So what I mean is, maybe "meow" was a mass trigger that caused several bots to join/rejoin the channel, and the person gets flooded.
I'm not sure if you can get flooded on StarCraft, but on Stealthbot, it turns off E/L to prevent getting flooded.

Question to OP: Were you on StarCraft?

Yes.

@Heinermann When did I say that? What else could have been the cause? My best guess is that the Clan SK bot had something to do with it other than flooding, and that it was a bot having connections with a blizzard rep but I really don't know.

It doesn't matter how much you are flooded with messages. It has no impact on your client's connection with Battle.net.
It's not possible for some Bot to get you ipbanned like that. If there were some Blizzard rep behind it, then that rep is already fired.
If anything it was a coincidence.
