Silent Hill: Restless Dreams

Last Version ATM is Version F!!!

Version FINAL: http://www.staredit.net/?file=1855&s=&sess=843c89

I'm happy to announce that my first professional map that I've been working on for about four and a half months is complete. It's been lots of fun making it and I'm positive most of you will love it. Some key things about this game is that it's terrifying, has a well written story (mostly borrowed from SH2), has survival horror elements, and has some awesome music (again from SH2, by Akira Yamoaka)

Directly from Nibbits game description:

“You haven't experienced true SC horror until you have played Silent Hill: Restless Dreams for SC, made by EzTerix.
Based on the terrifying series Silent Hill, Silent Hill: Restless Dreams combines survival horror elements, shock moments, and an overall tense atmosphere to create the perfect Starcraft horror.
Featuring music from the game Silent Hill 2 and Akira Yamoaka.
Another feature are the five characters, each with their own story to tell about Silent Hill. You take control of one of these five characters in an attempt to fulfill their goal in Silent Hill. The download is definitely worth it because not only is this game incredibly eery yet exciting, it also can last multiple playthroughs to fulfill each of the multiple character's goals.
Not only that but it also includes in game cinematics to add to the story and atmosphere.

Comments: First I have to thank the makers of Silent Hill 2 for such an epic story and incredible game. It gave me much inspiration to make this game. I had a great time over the 4 or so months I worked on it. This game helped me learn a lot about Starcraft UMS mapping techniques which is awesome. I hope you enjoy this game!

If you're having trouble with the game or stuck anywhere, then this walkthrough is totally for you.
Now as promised, the walk through *warning slight spoilers*

—Walkthrough Start—

Prologue -

*Find key in the parking lot (place with the cars) Notice: All available players must find to individually access Woodside Apartment

*Use key to enter Woodside Apartment (door is in the west near the water)

Woodside & Bluecreek Apartments -

*Use the electricity control panel on the second floor

*Find the Garage Key on the 3rd floor in a closet (it's a small opening near the second open room)

*Use garage key on the first floor on the locked door

*Find key in the bathroom on the first floor (after garage, bottom room)

*Use the key on the locked door on the second floor

*Find the Bluecreek key on the first floor of Bluecreek Apartments in the bathroom (or after cutscene)

*Use key on the bottom locked door on the second floor (one without Straight Jackets in it, also the one with the display text)

+++Notice+++

Second floor of Woodside apartments has a Health drink

Town of Silent Hill -

*Make your way to Pete's Bowl-O-Rama , north east after you exit Bluecreek

*Make your way to Rosewater Park, northern part of city

*Make your way South West to Heaven's Night

*Find Hospital Key in Heaven's Night

*Enter Hospital

+++Notice+++

There is a health drink southeast of the town near a blockade, you could see the blockade in the “Prologue”, it's just at the other side in the “Prologue”. Careful of numerous Straight Jackets

Hospital -

*Find Hook on the third floor, most north westerly room

*Find String on the second floor

*Put Hook and String together on your beacons and stand next to the Hole on the second floor, pick up the Basement Key

*Use Basement Key on the Locked Door to the left of the basement, pick up Second Floor Key

*Use Second Floor Key on the locked door on the Second Floor

*Find the code on one of the memos in the Second Floor

*Use the code on the locked door in the basement

*pick up Silent Hill Historical Center Key

*Tranverse to Silent Hill Historical Center(West of town near Rosewater Park and Heaven's Night)

+++Notice+++

+There is an Ampoule on the first floor, be wary of the Nurses and a possible Mandarin.

+There is a Healthdrink on the second floor.

Silent Hill Historical Center-

*Use the Silent Hill Historical Center Key to unlock the locked door.

*Go down the hole

Prison-

*Find the Tablet of the Gluttonous Pig (it should be near when you drop in)

*Find the Tablet of the Seductress (left row, at the very end in the bathroom near a toilet) (++NOTE++ clicking on the tablet will crash your game, you can still use the tablet in your inventory however)

*Find the Tablet of the Oppressor (left row, at the very end in a cell above the bathroom, note that there are no Patient Demons inside the cell)

*Use all three items together on the Gallows

*Find Key to Cell #47 (or some number)

+Use Key to Cell #47 on the Locked Door on the right row of the prison, it's at the very end.

*Find the Old Key

*Use The Old Key on the locked door at the left row of the Prison, it's at the very end.

*Exit

+++Notice+++

-Finding the next Health Drink is tricky. Go to the row on the right, and to the second cell. Go to the toilet and retrieve the “Toilet key”. Then go to the left row and use it on the first locked door. Retrieve the Health drink.

-The Amopoule is in the bathroom on the left row next to a some showers. Be careful of Patient Demons and the lumbering Abstract Daddys.

-There is an easy way to kill the Abstract Daddys on your own. When they get close to the top of the prison, lure them to a couple of tables at the top right of the prison (there should be a memo in there). Go next to the memo and they'll get stuck trying to kill you. Kill them instead (be wary of attacking Patient Demons who can still attack you away from the tables)

Labyrinth -

*Each character has their own unique labyrinth. It should be straight foward. In the Abstract Daddy one, micro your way to kill it. In the Freezer one. Target the REAL person and don't waste your times killing hallucinations.

Hotel -

*Find the key in the room to the right of level

*Use key on the door to the left of level

+++NOTICE+++

-There is a health drink in the kitchen. There should be an opening in the hall, just go inside it.

-If you are Angela, Eddie, or Maria and there is a Loren and James present, do not use the key on the door. Instead wait for them to come into the room with the key and approach the T.V. (Loren just has to come near the room). This will allow them to see an important cinematic and have a better gaming experience.

—Walthrough Over—

After then it's pretty much the end part. But it's a very exiting end part, mind you ;).

===Micro Strategies=== (ASSUMING FH)

Apartment -

#Pyramid Head#
*Avoid him completely and get the key, then proceed to run away from any monsters that may follow you (only one person needs the key, don't wastefully let other people lose hp getting it aswell)

#Garage#
*In the garage try not to get surrounded. Do this by not charging headfirst into the garage in total darkness away from your companions.
*Range units pack together closely to be able to see mannequins together and fire at them at same time without losing much hp (make sure Eddie won't accidentally splash you all together)
*Angela can take out the Straightjacket fairly quickly

#Fire escape#
*With proper timing you can completely dodge and run away from any nearby opponents
*You could always use your keys at the same time when entering the fire escape to kill the mannequins quickly without hp lost or someone being isolated and surrounded

#Bluecreek Stairwell Area#
*When entering this room run UP then RIGHT then DOWN and sprint toward the stairs at the RIGHT hall.
*Avoid the lumbering monster completely

Silent Hill -
#Between Bluecreek Apartments and Pete's Bowl-O-Rama#

*You're entire party can either die here or you can all survive through one's sacrifice of health drinks or overall teamwork.
*Angela can clear this area easy. Make sure Angela has atleast one healthdrink (and atleast 100 health) before leaving the Apartment. She should then sprint toward the blockade (area outside with healthdrink) and acquire it. Then force Angela to go Rambo all over the monsters, but make sure to use a healthdrink quickly for her health will drop fast when attacking so many foes. This can also be done with Eddie who can decimate them if they are packed in a group.
*Maria should not try 1v1ing the monsters in this area
*You can move as a group toward the blockade or skip it entirely and go to pete's bowl-o-rama, but be forewarned. Noobs will not know their surroundings and will get lost and die. Make sure to guide them and attack as a group and not scatter.

#Between Pete's Bowl-O-Rama and Rosewater Park#
*Run diagonally through the StraightJackets on the rooftop. When at the end of these structures immediatly head north. If you kept heading diagonally (following the road) you will be attacked by a group of StraightJackets.
*Follow the road in Rosewater Park, you may be attacked by one Cerebrus. If you are attacked by more you are going the wrong way.

#Between Rosewater Park and Silent Hill Historical Soceity and Heaven's Night Club#
*There are a group of straightjackets patrolling the road. Attack them as a group or with precise timing, avoid most of them completely.

#Between Heaven's Night Club and Hospital#
*Stay on the road.

Hospital -

*A general way to kill the nurses is to have someone lure and have a ranged unit shoot the nurse while it is occupied by attacking another person (who should be running around in circles, avoiding damage and killing the nurse) Be forewarned, she may turn her sights on her nearest attacker.

#First Floor#
*It is a good idea to kill the StraightJacket in the bathroom for future ease.
*Do not lure anything out of the first floor bathrooms
*Lure a few nurses away from the cafeteria in the first floor. Kill them and stealthily make your way to the ampoule (just go directly down and hook right). One false move can signal the entire room to attack.

#Nightmare Hospital#
*Stick to the walls. Do not go to areas you don't need to.

Prison -
*When you first enter the prison you are in the cafeteria. Eventually you will wander into a hallway and see some tables. Go beside the tables and there is a memo and the mayor and his connection to the Prison and Silent Hill Historical Soceity. This is your new trap. Lure Abstract Daddys to this location and go next to the memo. They will get stuck and you will be allowed to kill them easily. Be forewarned, Patient Demons can still attack you, focus on killing them if they're attacking you when you lured.

===End of Micro Strategies===

Got anymore? Post here guys ^_^

I hope you all enjoy the game!

++Known bugs with this version++
*In single player the upgrade center that's supposed to last for 60 seconds sometimes doesn't get destroyed after 60 seconds.

Possibly more bugs to be discovered and fixed in later versions.

--Suggestions--
*Beacons should be at the right of the inventory for quick usage when unable to look at inventory.

More suggestions?

Version A: The start version and first version that released the game.

Version B: Will completely redo music for the general part of the game. Will attempt to fix the "somewhat working" ending. Will change unit properties and placement. Will fix a few bugs seen in the previous version.

Version C: Completely fixed the ending so it is viewable on Multiplayer. Also fixed inventory.

Why ty and you were really fast xD. If you have any suggestions go ahead and tell me.

Quick warning for everyone this map might be a tad hard. I have however beat it on single player without cheats (on a much harder scale) so single player is fine.
Multiplayer though might be a bit harder except your team gets about 20 more healing items overall than on single player with no difficulty change other than that single player has +8 dmg and +1 armor upgrade and a ally that only lasts for a small part of the game.... (large run on sentence xD)
Anyway I hope you enjoy it =)

Played it with a friend. It's a fun, but hard map. The atmosphere you did great at. I just found my friend on the first game and scared the crap out of him haha. The scary parts were great, with the Pyramid Head. I only got past the fire escape though. Me and my friend had to micro to kill the mannequins, but that's pretty hard to do with a zealot lol. I'll be trying to beat this map and give full feedback.

Btw, Refridgerator is spelled Refrigerator. Just had to point that out haha. Scary map too. I wanted to stay in the house lol.

Finaly a map im willing to test, SH ftw.

EDIT: Ah, played and i really loved the music and the factor that you can play as any of SH 2 characters and that brings replayability too, i hate to critisize but as james its really really hard to win in single player, dont know about the others, dindt play them yet. Nice job.

Yeah in a future version I will try to tone down the difficulty. I'm thinking about increasing hp, maybe an extra point in armor, slight damage increase, and making a couple more health drinks somewhere in the map (gonna have to make room for more locations ;p). Also unit placement is key and I have definitely found through some of my play-throughs where most people always die. There are a couple areas where if you don't have enough people in game you have to run through them which works most of the time, unless your down to 50hp without health drinks ;p.

I found Single Player Mode with James to be easy, but tbh it's probably just me because I know this map from top to bottom. I will probably improve the upgrade thing in SIngle Player Mode and maybe add an extra healing item =). Make sure to note that in Single Player you can Save and Load. Also currently James is the only character you can do Single Player Mode with, the others have to be in Multiplayer. He had the most cutscenes and most general storyline so i felt he would be the best to Single Player with (also because in SH2 he was the main protagonist).

Also Cecil recommend a bunch of things for my game yesterday after a quick test. I will probably do most of the ideas except adding beacons outside doors, it just feels a little flashy and random for dark atmospheric game xD. What I will definitely take into consideration though is making this game more newcomer friendly and easier for the next version. Was also thinking about creating a "Nightmare (hard)" version of this game...but it seems this game is already on "Nightmare" difficulty for mostly everyone xD. So I guess this can be the hard difficulty for this game and the next version will be a "Normal" mode.

Expect to see a newer version before the Last Stand RPG deadline...I don't want the judges to be tossing their mouses and hitting their keyboards in frustration at the difficulty :P

A major point to fix is your damn inventory system. Please use a Gateway or something.

It does work, but it really isn't user-friendly at all.
There are much better ways to make it work.
Use Gateway please.

There is a difference between a simple inventory and a more usable and convenient inventory. Imagine if to use a key, you had to go through several screens just to select it. While still relatively simple, that doesn't mean it's any better than simply having an action button or going through one screen. The inventory is okay right now, but it doesn't really cater to situations where using an item is life and death, which happens often. Don't attempt to justify poor systems simply because that is "how it is." Resident Evil 1 and 2 had poor cameras, but that doesn't mean you need to imitate that poor style in a starcraft map.

er wth happened to all my text xD.

I smell...SABOTAGE!!!

edit: I'll see if I can repair this thread again. Unless an admin can resurrect it but I doubt ;p

edit: just edited and uh all the text was already there. I just spazzed a little thar

edit: I like muffins

edit: Ok about my inventory.

Was just wondering how my keys would work in the Gateway. I mean I have dozens of keys and quite a few items that need to be combined which I don't see happening in a gateway. Although it could be done in a dropship but I would need multiple dropships for each player which might be slightly confusing to anyone but the experienced.

edit: I like milk + muffins not just muffins my bad

edit: uh not sure what kind of muffin they all taste the same or like crap

edit: ok I don't like them that much they just taste fluffy but cake tastes better

You got 7 edits listed and it is written you've edited only 5 times. Liar!
Anyways, maybe have a dropship for keys and an other one for the rest? Or simply have the gateway trigger any door. They are opened in a certain order anyways? Just verify the player had the key.

Minor Bug/Peculiar ability: You are able to build things with the probe & scv items, and make spider mines with the vulture key.

ALSO: If you ever so desire, go to the options menu and turn down Gamma Correction all the way to the left. (It's in Video) You'll love the results. :ermm:

Edit: Collapse Box to prevent spoilers :bleh:

Almost every day since you released it, I have been working on beating this map in Single Player, (No cheats of course.) saving and restarting many dozens times where I could have done the game faster and more efficiently. I have saved my progress a total of 173 times, restarted 18 times, picked up 5 health drinks and two ampoules, and yet I still beat the final boss with only 48 hp left. (Terrible AI for the final boss though :( )
This game has tested my patience, made me wet my pants once, (OMGOSH PYRAMID HEAD :scared:) {ESPECIALLY when I was being chased by Pyramid head, he cost me 3 WHOLE HEALTH DRINKS} frustrated me to the ends of the earth, and made me extremely proficient at microing a marine around hydras & zerglings.
All in all, this game is now one of my favorites, and it will most certainly remain the BEST Silent Hill Map Ever.

I think I'll try the multiplayer now... please don't be harder... otherwise... :surrender:

Thanks Ezterix for making such a brilliant map.

Yes. Seriously when I try to play this by myself it's impossible to micro. The best way to go about it is to use unit movement detection like Spell sword. For the Health drinks at least. ( I don't use unit hot keys so this IS the best way for me ;D)
