As was said in DTBK's leaving topic, an official SEN history should be made, and I have the time/interest to helm it. Of course, researching everything is a time-consuming process, so I'm going to need your help! But before we begin researching and compiling, we need to get some things in order first:
1) Why make a SEN History? I have a personal reason. I've seen the organization, growth, and eventual splintering and shrinking of all-volunteer, creative-geared organizations happen twice now and for (IMO) similar reasons. I'm looking to avoid this pitfall with my own all-volunteer organization. History is doomed to be repeated if not learned from! A number of you may have similarly applicable examples to research for occasions in your own life. Also, I'm sure a number of us have been wondering what this site was like before we came here. I think I have a pretty good idea about what happened since July 2005, but before that, I really don't have much more than vague notions. 2) How to organize the history? There are a number of ways this could be done, and you all are welcome to suggest structuring ideas, but here's a few that came to mind: A) Chronologically (We could do chapters based on 2003, 2004, 2005, etc., for instance). B) By Subject (Focusing on specific forums, events, public movements). C) Biographically (Focus on people deemed significant enough to warrant having interlinking biographies written about them). 3) What falls into SEN's history and what doesn't? There have been events significant to SEN that started outside of the forum itself. I know that a number of SEN's founders got their start at a different forum (Blizzforums?) where they talked about forming SEN. And of course, Maplantis was significant to SEN"s history. We should be in agreement here. Without focus, this project will be too large and unmanageable. 4) How to update it? The history should have a means for future editors to keep it updated, so that the history doesn't stop at the end of 2009, for instance. If there are anymore significant discussions, let's have them now. I'd be happy to serve as chief editor, but I'm happy to do some research too and if anyone else is interested in editing, please say so. Here's some sources for history that will be of interest: http://www.staredit.net/?faq=13 http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php http://www.staredit.net/maplantis/ http://blizzforums.com/showthread.php?t=2758 (I'm not sure how to find other topics by SEN members) Let's do this thing! Once we have some volunteers and a good idea about organization, this thing should come together faster than you think! Well, if you can justify the significance of writing about large, but ultimately doomed, collaborative projects, I have no objections to including them. I think the goal of this overall history should be for it to be detailed and informative, but not so overlong and tedious that it winds up being little better than someone digging through the archives themselves.
Here's an idea that I think would be a good start: Have the major admins of this site, past and present, write some reasonably detailed histories of the site (they can PM them to me if they don't wish to be individually cited in case there's information they consider somewhat sensitive) and we can look them over and research any vague areas that ought to be fleshed out. Also, it doesn't have to be those three, but I think they'd be good choices and an ideal writer would be someone who spent a lot of time at the site and was able to bear witness to most of the events and changes that took place. I may even write my own version to get the ball rolling. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

First you should find out as much SIGNIFICANT information and dates as possible, this should help in organizing less important info.
You should format by year, but not by month. Try and order it as accurate as possible, but don't worry too much into it being perfectly sync. Break down the years into: Key Moments. General Moments. Other Information. I don't want to see Clan Chef, Oo or Mp making it into key moments. General at most. DEAD's bot abuse/firing is key. LW firing is key. Maplantis is key.etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
