FAQ's
What is Hero Sanctuary?
http://www.staredit.net/topic/8662/ - if you can play Temple Siege, you can play Hero Sanctuary.

Is it too late for me to sign up?
Never. Even if you can't make it at 7PM, you can be made a sub for someone who left early. If you can't still too late, still play for as long as you can, you will just be subbed out.

How can I sign up?
At the most, post in this topic that you want to sign up (preferably with a team). At the least, just show up!

I'm not coming cuz I can't get a pro team together, or, There's no way I'm gonna win.
Who cares! Just come and have some fun!

What happened to the Temple Siege tourny?
I got banned, faz- offered to run it instead so I let him, then he dropped the ball too, so it was canceled. The M8 tourny will come back eventually.

waaaaah I want TS, and I never want to try anything new waaaaaaaah!
Dial whine one one.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

I'll ask pheasel if he wants to play. I may or not be able to make it. If I can, me (Jack[RCDF) and pheasel[RCDF plus one other will be a team.

Red classic.

I said that I could maybe run it and then was not able to- big difference.

But yeah, should've been TS. Have fun.

You may not 'team splash' player summons(medics, goblins, etc).

Just a heads up:

There are no goblins.

Also, Maybe a link to the topic in case anyone who hasn't played the game yet wants to learn more about it?

I'll attach the map alpha to this post in case anyone can't find it to DL the most recent version. You can attach it to the first if you'd like and
I'd remove it from here.

I'd also like to sign up, but I have no team.

It will be perfect if we can just get 8 teams.

PROTIP: Post if you are entering, don't post if you aren't. Do you also post in the start of every mafia topic that you won't be playing, and that you think it's boring?

And by 8 teams I mean 4. If there are only 4 teams it should be easy enough to manage and play in the tourny.

Nov 30 2009, 4:30 am Neki Post #13

I'm thinking about entering, but I don't know how well my CoM would fare in a competitive environment. I usually only play against Norm and he's bad, so that's not really indicative of how well I can play. :P I would need a team first though...

Nov 30 2009, 5:23 am Lt.Church Post #14

i want to enter but 1. i dont have a team, 2. ive only played 2 games of hero sanctuary; not as many people playing it as templeseige and ive been banned more than once for downloading once(wtf dude its in beta, seems obv imma download a new ver) and for being mistaken for another player in the previous game, not willing to rm for me >_>

so in short, i dont have much experience but add me for a maybe free agent.

can we add that rule where each team gets to ban 1 hero? Personally I think some heroes are cheaper than others; this rules helps removed a lot of "you won cuz your team used op heroes".

Please discuss which heroes are commonly considered OP so that this can be more properly avoided by having a BT version with no OPness.

No. That's a terrible solution to the problem (if there is one). TS games would suck if every game mutant and rine were banned(I don't know what the equivalent would be in HS). You fail as a map maker if this is the only way to balance your map, so I'm glad Norm is against it as well.

Bans have been standard practice in DotA since the beginning of competition in it. Mapmakers can never be perfect, bans allow the community to strategize and for the metagame to evolve independent of versioning. It also means you don't have to wait on the mapmaker to patch obvious imbalances. It has another added benefit of requiring people to be good with more than one or two heroes. I suggested bans for Temple Siege tournaments but someone shot it down there too.

People are never going to agree which heroes are the most imbalanced, so you'll never have a version that pleases everyone no matter how much you balance tweak. This just adds to the strategy of team composition, it's something I really like analyzing in HoN. If you don't think Mech is imbalanced for example, you let the other team pick him and then demonstrate why he isn't. Or, maybe you're wrong and the Mech owns everyone, and afterward he starts getting banned. That's better balance feedback than anything else can ever give. Alternatively, maybe you really like using one hero and take a risk by banning its counter, but then the other team picks up on that and picks the hero you like... etc.

Obviously, StarCraft AoS maps aren't going to have the number of heroes to allow 6 bans like DotA/HoN do, but having 1 ban per team and then alternating picks serpentine style definitely beats racing or randomizing. Always first ban = first pick.

Or, if you have another solution, I'm all ears and I'm sure the DotA community wouldn't mind hearing too. -.- This is a pretty worthwhile discussion if you're going to continue hosting AoS tournaments but here might not be the best place for it, if a mod wants to move the relevant posts.

Characters in HS that can be controversial because of the way they are designed.

Quote
1. Samurai - For having Tiamet wing (people hate getting killed by their own cannons) and the ability to get 50regenerating shields at the cost of $0.
2. Serpent - For having rape late game spells and many ways to completely shut an enemy down if you let it get too strong.
3. MM - For giving MP Channel to allies, for being able to repair tank for better tankage, for being able to give detection for Ninja at night for the low cost of ~12 MP over a decent area.
4. AI - For not having MP, being immune to MP Burn because of this, and technically being able to use L4 spells with only 5 stat points.
5. Necromancer - For practically nullifying Psycho's dropship advantage, for being able to farm all 3 lanes if left unchecked.
6. Illusionist - For having the most powerful (in terms of direct damage) final spell in the game, and for being able to fuck with opponents pretty bad.
7. Rune Mage - For being able to target you with Mindlock while she is at any spot on the entire map.
8. Psychopath - For being able to travel in dropship. Being able to use dropship spells at 0MP cost. For having a chance to cripple anyone who kills him - leaving them eZ kill for any nearby allies.
9. Ninja - For being invisible for half the game. For having rape combo spells, and a way to avoid all spell effects. For being able to teleport his entire team on top of a stunned opponent's head.
10. CoM - For having insane evasion against anyone. Dissipate. For having 2X exp capabilities. For having epic stun spells.
11. Alchemist - Petrify. Carnivore. Incinerate. Because he can give base teleport to allies at any point of the map. Because he can change his spell set to counter you at any point in the match.
12. Crimson Wolf - For being deemed the easiest to play. For being super fast. For having a spell that auto-tracks enemies you hit it with, letting you run to safety.

My point is that someone who loses can make a case against ANY hero being OP because all of the heroes are very unique and very strong if used correctly. That is why I think such a rule is pointless.
