WELL. I've decided to make another post about this terrain since the last terrain post I made is extremely outdated.

A little info on the layout and design of the terrain. The whole map is divided into regions, excluding the control panel, system space and all that. This means that its not a "world' type map where everything is in one atmosphere so to speak. It's more claustrophobic and enclosed. And you have to enter/exit areas to go to other regions. Think of the game Fable.

I designed it this way so it was easier to get lost and lose your sense of direction. Plus its easier to trigger areas when they're divided.

And on to the terrain.

This is the town you enter first, Wedgewood.

This is the cliff top path, which leads to a huge coastline yet to be made.

This is Wedgewood farms. Where your journey begins.

And this is the first part of the wilderness I've completed. The majority of the map is wilderness.

What do you guys think?

Very very nice terrain job, reminds me of Crescent Dyne except about 100x as functional, and as much as I don't like terrain height issues, you've done a good job on these to at least get the cliffs right so it makes sense that it's a hill. I really like that second picture the best, should be a cool map, GJ so far :)

LOL!
I had told him I could predict your behaviour over the terrain of the 2nd screenie: I said you'd yell at Terrain Height Issue... I failed >.<
I love your terrain, man ^^
And how do you take so big screeshots? ;o

Just here for the pie

I like how it's not so linear and you give the players a choice as to where they go. I always loved going back and exploring what I've missed only to find a quest or something. Have some people actually doing things on the farm. Don't make them just running around and such. Make them chase chickens, plow the land, go to sleep during night (I know you have a day and night clock system), etc. Perhaps some time during the night there's a possible alien attack like in Majora's Mask? I dunno.

Probably he made a map-picture of the whole map and copy/pasted single parts, you can make a map-picture with SCMdraft.

You've just read my request in my ToG's production topic heh? >.<
Lol, I guess you're hating my terrain so far :P

Actually, no, I didn't. I just seem to like non-linear games in which you do what you will as you weave in and out of the main story.

Most of the ones on Battle.net really suck. I'm talking about actual good ones (there are barely any maps that are non-linear and fun) and games other than StarCraft.

Well, i just have a really freakin huge monitor so whole regions can fit in one screen and i use print screen. Most of the time a region isn't big enough for me to have to zoom out more than 66% so yeah...

Holy crap, great idea. You mean the weird lantern guys right? with the balloons and you have to help that girl?

AND

I worked on this today, its another wilderness region.

I'm going to try and make a terrain demo when i get a considerable amount done. Right now im at about 1/3 done the terrain. If your wondering what the Gateways are doing at the entrance of caves, they're guardians that give you a puzzle and let you into the cave if you get the puzzle right, it can be a riddle or a duel or some sort of treasure hunt. If anyone's played fable you'll know what i'm talking about.

I'm noticing a lot of small crevices and nooks the players I'm guessing are supposed to walk on. Suppose enemies are placed, won't clots happen here and there? It is very nice terrain, and it'd be a shame if the unit movement didn't work out as you planned :-d just a thought.

People should never use these narrow bridges, even if they look sexy :S

I'm using a spawn system where enemies spawn off screen and run in screen and attack your hero. so there will be no blockage, and they only spawn over top of burrowed units placed in spots so that they don't clog.

I don't see why not, as long as units don't get stuck on them.

And I worked on the night/day system today along with finding ambiance sounds for night/day, morning, wilderness, and coastal areas.
