Hello,
I'm new here and theres a bit about map making thats still fuzzy to me. I've been having a probably mainly with whenever i get over 62 or something locations it asks if i want to use vanilla format. what does it mean by that? One time
i used it on one of my maps. And it stuffed everything up, like the locations were in different places etc.

What editor are you using? If you aren't using Scmdraft2, you should switch.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Vanilla = Starcraft without Expansion.

By the way, I'm using Scmdraft2 it's a great editor! Anyway, i think it was something else, it doesn't matter though, the map was kinda trashy.

Its when you exceed like 50 locations, meaning that your telling it you have scbroodwar which can go up to 255/ over w/e # you got it at. That's what I was told anyways when it first happened to me.

Vanilla format is used by pre-version-1.04 non-expanded Starcraft. Non-Broodwar, post-1.04 Starcraft uses the hybrid format, which supports the full range of triggers and the full number of locations (but still uses the .scm extension). So really, it's misleading to say that the Vanilla format is simply the format for non-expanded Starcraft, because that would suggest that you need Broodwar for the additional locations, which is not the case.
