Mobile Grids

So I know how Mobile grids work and all, but I'm not quite sure about the differences in unit sizes themselves. Basically I want to move something half a square down, so I need a 0.5x0.5 mobile grid.

I know there are no flying units that small, and scourges do not form a perfect grid, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a perfect something-point-five-by-something-point-five square grid. If I could do that, I could just do subtraction to effectively get a 0.5x0.5 grid system going on.

Thanks!

Fortunately, I know that this is possible. Unfortunately, I can't remember which units.

Trying going down 1.5 using Devourers and then up 1 using alternating scourges and observers.

According to this tutorial, Devourers are 2x2, so that wouldn't work.

Perhaps I should try Mutalisks. I seem to remember them forming in a nice square form.

I was looking at the Wiki
http://www.staredit.net/wiki/Grid_Systems#Mobile_Grids
I don't know which is correct, I haven't had a use for mobile grids in a long long time.

EDIT: I just did some measuring and I'm positive it's 1.5

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Devours create a 1.5x1.5 grid like mutalisks and guardians.
The old wiki was just wrong.

You can create a 0.5x0.5 grid using devourers for 1.5 steps and scourges+observers for the 1x1 steps.
It uses more units but it works well. You just need to pay attention that you don't get to close to borders.

The only way I can truly think that would work would be to create a grid off of another one, this should get near to the correct spot, it'd take a bit of testing though...

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Scourge/obs is 1x1. see attached map.
Ahli's works, but leaves out right next to the center.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
