New Diplomacy Idea

I am currently creating a new diplomacy map. I love playing Diplo, but I hate how every Diplo map is the same. So I had the idea to create a new Diplo called "Diplomacy: New World". I was tired of always playing in the Europe/Asia area, and didn't want to be constricted to create terrain of any continents. So I decided to create a "New World" with made up country names and such, set in the future a little bit (You will be Protoss instead of Terran).

So my question is, do you think that is a worthwhile idea? Do you think it would be fun, or do you think people would rather play the classic Diplos? Also any thoughts or ideas you have? Thanks for the feedback.

What would set this apart aside from having a different setting and protoss?

I think you should try to add more to the genre.

I recommened not switching it to protoss, People will think its to different and for diplomacy terran is generally the strongest overall race, It's much easier to snipe things with snipers. I've also wanted to make a sort of fantasy diplomacy, But I was going to make the terrain based off the earth before the continets split, And it was going to be mythlogical.

Well thats the thing, I was just wanting a new setting and time period. I'm not looking to totally remake the idea, just switch it up a bit.

You think? Changing the race to Protoss is a little risky... I just want something to set it apart a little bit. Just one more thing to show the "New World" idea other than different terrain. 'Cuz Protoss shows that its a little bit more futuristic, although countries special units will still include Terran and Zerg units. Maybe I'll see how it works out. Maybe it WILL be a horrible idea xD

Thanks for the feedback guys.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

Changing Terrain won't impact the gameplay - unless you specificly design the terrain to have strategic aspects.
If you do so it would be good idea.

Changing race will definitely attract players out of curiosity. But once they've learned to use the new race it's up to you to make the units diverese enough and give chance for mutliple strategies to maintain motivation to play.

I also strongly recommend that you add one or two new ideas which make it different from classic diplos. Those changes HAVE TO have gameplay in mind. Just changing something because it is a cool idea will not keep serious players from using the probably more balanced classic versions.
Ideas:
- Add power generators. Example: Nexus = "Quantum power plant" (or some other fancy name and pylon is "Distribution node". So if the distribution node killed all local buildings cease to function (pylon aura) but if you don't have enough Quantum power plants ALL buildings will go offline (triggers).

- Use gas as a special resource with that you can perform specials actions with. Call it mystic energy or whatever you want. You can research devices that use dark energy to heal your troops, inject tanks with nanobots, or deploy computer viruses that disable enemy buildings. Just to mention a few possible uses.

- Have 2 Races: Terrans and Protoss and both borrow special units from Zerg which could be used as pets, or warbeasts, or just neutral hostile creatures that roam the wildlife.

- Be creative. Just using a 2nd race won't make your map good or interesting.

Alright, thanks for the ideas. I wasn't really wanting to add alot of "new stuff" in 'cuz I thought it would take away from the game itself. like Diplo Infinity. I didn't really like all the added Oil Rigs and Vespiene Geysers and Seaports and such. But maybe some things like that will be needed to set my map apart. Thanks for the ideas!

I suggest you don't name the map "New World"because people will think that the map will be about the Western Hemisphere

Wow. Incredibly, I've been diplo'ing non stop lately and I started thinking wow i hate playing so much on europe, I should make a diplo with all new fictional terrain. I thought too many diplos rely on the same strategy, alliances, and tactics because the landscape is always the same. I thought about doing a diplo on the moon, but for some reason I dislike twilight maps. Then i thought i would just distort the map and flip it to throw people off. Finally, I got the idea of all new geography, and coincidentally I found this thread where I was going to post the EXACT same idea.

So if you want to work together on it I'm in. As for ideas i thought about a lot of ideas to make the diplo different from others, though I'd have to sit and think awhile for them to come back to me. We should deff make this a project. O but theres no way we can make the main race protoss, nobody likes using zlots or goons. A hybrid however would be effective, like this

Rank1 units: Marine - Zlot - Medic - Dship - Observer
Rank 2 units: Fbat - Ghost - Dark temp
Rank 3 units: Vulture - Goliath(AA ONLY) - Reaver - Wraith - Shuttle
Rank 4 units: Goon - Siege tank - Scout - Valkyrie
Rank 5 units: BC - HT & Archon - Corsair
Rank 6 units: Sci Vessel - Carrier - Arb
This can provide a tech system running on 6 gas up to 23.

One option We could easily add a mode after completion that every 10 minutes for example an event would happen, revolutions, bandits, all your supply depots burn down :-( , earthquake, aliens, hurricanes, zombie outbreaks, vampires, diseases, volcanoes (islands only), AND a couple helpful events, foreign conscripts, friendly alien protection, surpluses (cash), and last but not least no event.

The second special option we can easily add is 10-30 minutes to prepare for judgement day.

yea i jump topic a lot

Relatively ancient and inactive

Europe is the most epic continent on Earth. Why leave it? It has the most history, the most wars, the most powerful armies, the most powerful economies, and the most general epicness.

Really, what factions would be fighting in the US? Well, actually I had thought of making a map where the United States broke apart. The islamic world successfully nukes Washington, eliminating most of the federal government. Parts start breaking away. Southern parts will be backed by Mexico, China establishes a military presence in the West, Russia invades Alaska and starts expanding southward and eastward into Canada, Canada plays the good guy and tries to conquer the East Coast before evil Mexicans can, and central America is a general free-for-all. Then, Europe sends a powerful army to aid Canada :P. Well, it's a good story, isn't it?

I've never played diplomacy, so this might not be... err.. what it's about, but it's a good idea anyway.

Well besides the aspect of Europe having the best economies and most countries in a small area, diplomacy pretty much totally ignores those concepts.

Correction. Europe has (presumably) the most RECORDED history in the world. In ancient times, Asia, Africa and even the Indiginous people of South America had many wars, enormous armies (Dragon Emperor?), grand economic wealth (Kingdom of Ethiopia, and the Chinese Empire). Not to mention the overall epicness of 3v1.

Alright you guys are getting off topic... this map is NOT going to be about the Western Hemisphere or ANY real place or time. It is all fictional. And why was this thread reported.....? Anyway SiN i think you might be right... that might throw some people off. Does anyone have any name suggestions? And sorry Zell I'm not looking for any partners. I'm trying to still keep the map simple and sweet. Just start your own map =P

If its futuristic, why not just make everything up? Paladin tanks, War Droids, Colosi.

I am making most of it up. It's not SUPER futuristic, still on "earth", or an earth like planet. More like a different reality.

... Rly? No fighting? What the hell do you do in diplomacy? Like... send envoys to... err... ask countries to reduce tariffs?

And, Vi3t... You may no longer directly respond to my statements.
