Hello...This is pissing me off. I can't do anything in DatEdit and whenever I try to it crashes.

Accessible Areas of DatEdit:

Units - Basic, Advanced, Sounds, AI Actions
Flingy

Inaccessible Areas of DatEdit (Crashing Areas):
Weapons, Orders, Tech, Upgrades, Graphics, Images, Portraits, Graphics, StarEdit, Sprites, Campaign

Why am I unable to access these areas? My DEP is shut off permanently, And It just seems to crash.
Please help. I'm dying to mod!
Whenever I enter the unaccessible area, Everything is jumbled up then it tells me
"Starcraft DAT Files Editor has stopped working."
And yes! I'm using the latest version of DatEdit!

I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you, but if you can't get it to work or want a temporary replacement, you could try PyDAT (dl EXE version at the top of the page). There is currently a previewing limitation so you won't be able to preview unit graphics in the editor (other preview stuff works like healthboxes, selection circles, unit dimensions), but that will change in the next version (or next next if things take too long).

Yet another block in the road...
I can edit the dat files using PyDAt but whenever I save weapons.dat it doesn't make the changes in game.
I tried using Aresenal III, Same problem.
NEVERMIND! MY WEAPONS/UNITS .DAT WERE SAVED IN THE WRONG FOLDER! WEIRD HUH?

she/her

Personally, I think Vista is a stepping stone to the next-generation (that will be better, having learned from Vista's semi-absolute failure) operating systems. But no, let's get back on topic.

For as long as reasonable, I myself shall stick with DatEdit.

What version of DatEdit were you using? You need the latest DatEdit, 1.5d (1.5b has a crashing bug).

Corbo should update his Modding Package, and any lower versions of DatEdit hanging around here on SEN should carry notice about this bug, because this is the fourth or fifth thread I've read about this same problem.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

What exactly are you doing? Seems to me (Except for the datedit crashing part) that it's more of a modding problem rather than a software issue.
Would you mind providing the steps you follow?

Both, I use vista and that version of DatEdit in my tool package (sometimes even a lower version cause I can't get used to the weapon type not being 3x3 area) and it works to perfection. It couldn't possibly work any better. I'm pretty sure, though, that the DLDB allows you to update the files yourself. And there was only been 3 topics with this problem. Two of them were posted by this guy and I am pretty sure he said the problem was fixed after he downloaded the tools from my tool package, appearantly he lied to us all then.

Okay,
1. I had no choice but to get vista because my laptop had a piece of the motherboard broke off.
2. The problem is fixed, Stop the thread. I don't need any more help on this topic.

Dear Corbo:
You shouldn't be so quick to cast judgement, such as "he lied". If you actually read his previous thread, DatEdit wasn't opening at all. The version in your tools package will, in fact, open. That's why he posted about success. However, when you click on certain tabs in 1.5b and lower, DatEdit will crash. IskatuMesk described the reason, but I cannot find his post at the moment (I think it had something to do with its location). Malvanis probably didn't initially realize this bug existed until he experienced it. Thus, that is what this post is about. Two separate issues. He is not a "liar".

DatEdit 1.5d: http://www.staredit.net/topic/3314/

As for updating the files myself, you used a custom installer program to package the tools. I cannot edit that unless I find what program you used for your installer and go through the trouble of setting all that up.

Those downloads are .rar You cannot run a .rar file like a .exe file. Please, any other downloads?

.rar is a compression format similar to .zip. You'll need a program like WinRar (google is your friend for this) to extract the files.

Excuse me, crappy? Would you care to elaborate?

I don't think he meant PyDAT, poiuy. We all know PyDAT is the future.

I guess he said it cause he went rampage on DLing versions of Arsenal III.

I should totally make my own Mod Package. It will feature ICE, Arsenal II, StarGraft, and StarDraft. Only the most elite modders will be capable of dodging its file-corrupting landmines -- a "Rite of Passage" for all would-be modders. It won't be free, though. Downloaders will need to pay. I'm reasonable, so I'll offer it at the low, low price of your sanity.

So you're planning to make profit from tools that anyone can get for free just by googling them?
That's gotta be something I've never seen before...

It would be like people trying to sell torrents of pirated software... and to think you call that being resonable...

fuck you all

Just for the record - I strongly second this perspective. Had I started working on DatEd right now, I would've made it cross-platform right from the start. So...PyMS FTW! :)

I'm still going to be stubborn and use DatEdit. I like the look more.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless
[2024-5-06. : 5:02 am]
Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value
[2024-5-06. : 5:01 am]
Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
[2024-5-06. : 12:51 am]
Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
