Alright so, my parents told me that part of my main gift for Christmas will be upgrades to my PC (whatever I need). You see, I'm terrible with this kind of stuff (I do a lazy teen style search and take the first item I see), so I'm asking for help. Currently I'm looking in the price range of $350 (But, if need be, I'll go up to $450), but honestly, I need upgrades to almost everything. My current target is to be able to play modern day games on AT LEAST the recommended system specs (like FarCry2), which currently calls for:

The sword and the faith

Without knowing what motherboard you have it is insanely difficult to give you upgrade advice. Find out, report back, and I'll see what I can do for you.

Since you use xfire, just go to your profile page and do Upload Rig, then paste that info here.

The sword and the faith

I discussed this on MSN with Deathman, and since his mobo is DDR with AGP, on a socket newegg doesn't even sell CPUs for anymore, I had to inform him that he'd be better off buying a new box.

My motherboard was apparently so outdated XFire couldn't see it.

And Ex, I can't thank you enough.

My only issue is if the PSU has the power for the 9600GT. Hopefuly Hawk checks this out and can varify.

Usually they spec the wattage on the GFX page, but I sort of doubt 300 is going to cut it.

this hard drive is twice the capacity and cache but its 9 dollars more (but it has free shipping ^^ )
That power supply will never handle the higher end graphics cards
( you should probably get 80 plus power supplies as they do save you money in the long run if you don't plan to upgrade)
