A young teenage girl was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat but her father was a rather staunch Republican.

One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to taxes and welfare programs. He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.

She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA but it was really tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying.

He asked, "How is your friend Mary." She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, went to all the parties all the time. Why she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.

Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.

The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair, I worked really hard for mine and Mary has done nothing".

The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party".

What about the people that work two jobs, have 3 or 4 kids, and still get screwed anyway?

I'm not really in a political party, well I am, the Christian party (I might seem hypocritical but I don't really support any political views, I just found this funny). But to me, the democratic party is also bad. Obama is such an elitist and no healthcare is ever free. He is proposing higher taxes, which would include the cost of "free" healthcare". So they would actually get screwed even more. There is always the salvation army and the churches to provide help.

1) Not all people are Christians (I'm not saying there aren't those that are, but yea).
2) Taxes are usually placed on the large corporations, because when you think about it, we were once small, and grew large.
3) Those who work many jobs and get screwed
a) They are lazy slobs, didn't care about school and are now pathetic.
b) Hard working imigrants or underpriviliaged people, see no.2

What about those immigrants who came to America for a new draem. Are they lazy slobs who didn't care about school? Maybe they weren't able to have that chance. And taxes may be higher on large corporations, but there are small businesses and individuals & families who will also see a major change in their taxes. Healthcare still cost money, and taxes from large corporations aren't obviously enough.

Let's keep the discussion focused on this dumb story. Keep all the other political stuff in the existing Obama vs McCain topic.

There's no rule against that in Null. Anything goes as long as it isn't spam.

I'm just making the suggestion because it would help the discussion. There's no point in carrying on a discussion about the same thing spread out among two topics especially if you're just going to repeat the same crap that's been brought up before. Another reason is that topic is in null and the discussion about Obama and McCain would fall better under Serious Discussion.

And any discussion relating to Obama and McCain in this topic without mentioning the story is off topic and that is against the rules regardless of whether or not the topic is in Null.

Sure you can keep talking about Obama and McCain, but by keeping it in Null you're not going to get as much out of it because in Null responses can lack the seriousness that they would have in Serious Discussion. For example stupid unsupported statements like "Obama is such an elitist" can be made in Null without consequence while in Serious Discussion they'd have to be backed up by some reasons.

Good for you. It had relations to it because this story was obviously about republican's point.

You're so fucking disgusting, I'm not even going to bother going through this shit anymore after this post.
You claim you're a fucking Christian, while you seem to think it's everyone else's fault and you don't want to help them with what they don't earn or don't have the luck to earn. What happened to help your neighbor? Because they've fallen on hard times doesn't mean they're bad or immoral people.

That story doesn't make any sense... the father must be a complete dumbass. You can't just 'take away your own points and give it to others', that is retarded. GPA reflects on the student's performance, not a score system. Even if the girl did went to the dean office, she would be declined to do so anyways. And how does working hard have to be apart of the Republican Party? Anyone can work hard and decide to support any political party.

What if Sarah Palin went to that college, got pissed off at the protagonist for whatever reason, and bribed the dean to falsify the protagonist's grades? Hmm..

(and yes, she isn't above much when it comes to making life hell for people she dislikes).

We live in a society.

The story has nothing to do with whether or not she can actually "give" her GPA to Mary. The father already knows that can't be done. The point of his suggestion is to get the daughter's reaction, that it wouldn't be fair for Mary to get something for doing nothing. (hence the statements in the opening about taxes and welfare) The father's final statement is acknowledgment of their common belief.

Finding reactions towards an off topic discussion then by giving an irrelevant response? Similar to what the father is going through?

Now lets say this girl is still in high school. After walking home from a long day studying in the library, she gets mugged and raped. She goes to her father, in desperate need of counsel, not wishing to bear the burden of teenage motherhood. He promptly responds that she must have the child. Going against his will, she makes up her mind that having this child would ruin her future, and heads to the abortion clinic down the street. On the front steps, she hears a truck roar up the road accompanied by some loud yelling, as several members of the local NRA pass by. Seeing her on the steps to such an institution, they gun her down.
Later, the father, being elderly and now childless, wishes there was some form of health care that he could afford. Unemployed because his job was outsourced to China, and with no possibility for offspring to take care of him, he sets his house for sale. As the first buyers come to take a look at the place, he simply sits in a chair and looks out the window. Their child comes up to him and asks him why he looks so sad. Slowly and painfully, he looks to the child and utters, "Welcome to the Republican Party." With these words he dies.

P.S. The family doesn't buy the house.
