Hello, me and Spaceboy2k (a.k.a. Kwan) are making a Dark fantasy / medieval map. We have many of the main trigger systems done, and have a pretty good plot. We were wondering if someone who is decent at dialogue would like to help us, as we are both horrible.

P.S. Yes, this map will be finished.

Are liberal use of jokes permitted? If so, I'm up for the job.

I'd say it might help to know a bit about the plot first, other than dark fantasy. I myself would not be interested until knowing a lot more details.

general plot: demons vs god, humans caught inbetween, main char must choose actions that reflect on powers /
"reputation" stats with demons/angels/humans [FABLE-like system]

You can do pretty much anything in this game, it can be slightly graphic, like you can rape people for demon "reputation" (it won't be very graphic at all really, on those particular parts... :P just wanted it to be realistic - you can be very evil or very good if you choose)

Edit: And flyinghat, do you like dark humour?

I write some stuff and would just love to help with the dialogue.

I'm a strong believer in good dialogue being able to salvage a story no matter how bland or over done a plot might be.

If you really did already finish the triggering and level design, it would be horrific if you wasted it all on the hopes that a member that you might not know all to well 'said' they could write for you.
Take zombie for example: http://www.staredit.net/topic/3510/

I'm just suggesting you preform a simple search on your candidates before you give them the keys to your car.

Not required, but you might also probably want to have a writer that possesses a solid understand of strings. They should have the foresight to lump common sentences together and recycle them(via switches/dcs).

Just a question. How does that example relate in any way to my ability to write dialogue?

I also believe dialog is very key in a high-quality map. It can really make things epic.

However, you lost me at "rape." My gf would never forgive me for working on that map / playing it, nor would I, "realism" or not. =P

The rape part does sound a bit nasty.
Before anyone can actually make up dialogue for the map they need to know the story.
If the plan is to pm to anybody who is going to write dialogue the map I should give a few examples of dialogue so you know if I'm good enough.
A cloaked figure with a hood on and a hammer clutched in its only arm moved softly through the night towards a young and cold girl. A few words slimed there way out the things fiendish mouth. They were "Ekky-ekky-ekky-ekky-z'Bang, zoom-Boing, z'nourrrwringmm"!
"What the hell" said the girl who was sitting down on the cold ground.
"Oh I guess that only works in the movies then" the freakish monster replied. The dark fiend rushed forward and struck the girl on the head with its giant hammer it held easily in its only hand.
"AAaagh!" she screamed "you hit my head"!
"Indeed and soon there will be pie".
"Huh, wha, what are you going to do"?
"Yes, soon there will be pie" it said without noticing the girls last words.
The girl on her knees started to inch and claw backwards over the cold cobblestones beneath her.
The villian in front of her looked down at her and then shook its hood off. It was the face of a clown.
"Oh my" said the girl.
Then the Kool-aid man rushed up out of the darkness and said "Oh yeah"!
"Let us be Cool-aid, you know you have no right to interefere".
"Damn the consequences. I will never let this gross injustice happen".
"Then tonight you die"!

Im not sure you noticed, but the monster is holding "an axe clutched in its only arm" and then suddenly it has a giant hammer "held easily in its only hand."
So, unless its a hammer-axe, that could be seen as confusing. Im feel the rest of the story deserves a big no comment sign! :...:

By dialogue I mean the actual story parts, i.e what the chars say. And the rape won't be graphic at all, and if people are bothered by it I can simply do it myself :P

So do you mean the story or the script?

The script, but you can most definately do some story too.

I've got a few ideas then.
Scene: Main Character fights boss.
Boss: The ritual is almost done.
Acolyte: Umm... ...actually its been done for some time now.
Boss: Really?
Boss: At last the ritual cake is mine!
Main: I wouldn't count on that.
Main: The cake is probable a lie.
Boss: This cake isn't and I can prove it.
(Boss eats slice of cake)
(Nothing happens)
Boss: Dammit. It needs more souls!
(Acolyte eats a piece)
Acolyte: Yes it needs more.
Boss: And I know where to get it.
Main: You'll never get any souls from me!
Boss: Oh I wasn't talking about you.
Boss: I was talking about my acolyte.
Acolyte: No!
(Boss kills acolyte)
(Boss eats another slice of cake)
Boss: Compliments to the chef.
(Chef Cthulu: appears)
Chef Cthulu: My pleasure.
(Chef Cthulu disappears)
(Main gets a choice)
/ \ \
Main can fight the Boss or run away or not fight.
If Main fights and kills Boss. If Main runs away nothing happens If Main is peacefull.
Boss: Noo!!! My only regret is that I didn't get another slice of cake! Boss: Here have a slice of cake.
Main can eat cake if he wants. Main can eat cake if he wants.

Well I would love to "try" and make dialogue. I need to be able to tell if the character, or characters, have any depth in them. If they are a "flat" character, I will only be able to make a "flat" script. I would also need to hang around you and your team while you develop the map to get an idea of the purpose of this map greater.

Why consider me? I am just a normal guy who enjoys plots. I study the plots, characters, and depth of speaking in movies and writen work. But I am nothing special.
