Linking quotes/disabling pictures

I seem to recall a forum which linked quotes, so that if the original post changed for some reason, the quote would be changed. Perhaps this is infeasible, as I enjoy changing quotes/splitting them up.

One thing that might be possible is disabling pictures in quotes. For one, pictures don't work well on this forum, and take up a lot of visual space. There's no reason to have multiple copies of the same picture.

For pictures: Convert to link in quotes, perhaps?

For quote-editing: Not sure about the purpose of this. Seems more of a way for someone to claim they never said something when called on it. An accessible edit-history would be nice, though.

Say someone posts a hacking site here. The next person quotes it entirely. Mod comes in, edits original post to remove hacking site info, but fails to see the quoted post. It's only a suggestion.

Ideally, the mod would read the whole thread and edit out all occurances of it. Your idea could have the potential to save a little extra work on behalf of the moderators, but as you've already noted there are a number of challenges facing a quote/edit linked system, such as split quotes or custom quoting (ie, copy-paste instead of the quote button). In the end, even with such a system and all the work needed to implement it, there is no gurantee, and thus the mod would still need to read the whole thread and edit out all occurances.

I like the edit history idea. Perhaps I'll put that into my own forum system on my website. For the image quoting, I like it the way it is. If someone only posts an image, and someone else wants to quote it to "lol" at it, it would be much easier to know what they are lol'ing at. In SEN V4 there was a flashback button on the bottom right of each quote to show the original post. This could be used to view the content at it's current state, and also see the content from when it was quoted. So yeah, I'm a gogogo for a flashback button. The post edit history could be a nuisance for constant edits, and if a mod edits a post that had a porn link in it (well that should be deleted), the link would still be visible to the public.

Flashback would be cool.

With an edit history, moderators could have the option of a full purge at user-level for such inappropriate content (user-level meaning other moderators could still view the original message, for the sake of keeping an accurate record).

Edit-history could work similar to how Wikipedia is set up, with a handy side-by-side comparison of all the changes, rather than just the previous version stored for view.

Honestly, who the hell would want to read all of the edits? Just a waste of time.

"OMG you edited your post! I want to see all of the spelling mistakes you made before editing it! mwahahaha"

People also edit before (hopefully) anyone else can read it in case they said something they wish they didn't or probably shouldn't have. It's a way to self-correct and avoid unnecessary conflict, and if people read the post before they edit it, tough. But if there's an edit history, then this ability will basically be invalidated because anyone can see everything they ever said. I mean, there's a reason the edit ability is there, and mods can already see the previous versions, so if there's an issue, leave it to the mods.

I think having an edit history for every single post is a bit over the top, in my mind it's pretty much a waste of space, but I don't know how much space there is on the server, so I may be wrong.

Can they really? I don't think so..
