Well, "no" for original Staredit only. But using the color list you can copy the characters working as color tags into your map.
But its derivates X-tra Editor and Fartyedit (which are actually mods for Staredit) already provide that.
I recommend you use ScmDraft as it is the best all-round editor available but if you insist on the original Staredit interface (though ScmDraft is not
that different) you can try X-tra or Farty. For Fartyedit you should ask Farty himself for the newest version.

The question was answered in the first reply. YES you can have colored text in staredit. You simply have to copy & paste the color characters from the file Alkali linked. Back in the day, this used to be the
only way to get colored text.
None.
I really don't see what you guys (farty and test *cough*) have against scmdraft 2. Also, this is beginning to turn into another scmdraft versus staredit discussion rather than answering his question. (which would still be no.)
I'd use it if I had windows. The default editor for mac has some glitches. No, it's not exactly 1x1 square tiles, it's 2x1. No, I can't do sprites. I just have an entire list of all the triggers possible in a trigger file, which i manually insert each time i need a special trigger, then delete the rest.
